I'm taking a RTW trip in December.
Near the end of the trip I have 4 days in Hawaii before heading home through the US. As it was at the end of my trip I haven't given much thought yet about what to do there apart from do a tour of Pearl Harbour WW2 ships perhaps.

    Any suggestions?
    Try some surfing perhaps?
Would there be enough to see/do on Oahu or should I consider a trip to one of the other islands?

    Any place I should avoid?

    Why don't you stay longer?

    Flights are booked.
Getting 4 weeks off work was a stretch and I already have activities planned up until I land in Honolulu. Just looking to use my time there most effectively.

I was there two years ago and we did all the usual. For a trip of that duration, it's probably best to stay on Oahu. We hired a car and spent a whole day driving around the Island, certainly worth it, but be careful you don't end up in any millitary bases (as I did on several occasions!).

One tip I would give is to avoid the Sea Life Park on Ohau. It's utterly crap. The only thing worth doing there is swimming with the dolphins. It aint cheap ($150, afair), but it was an incredible experience.

There's lots of shopping, if you are in to that, but you will find Oahu is not cheap.

TBH, the beaches are incredible, but watch out for mice - Mrs. Dunne was utterly freaked out by the quantity of the little feckers we encountered.

I remember Kailua beach being particularly beautiful.

We spent 4 days there in January this year. Thanks again for your advice on my thread pre-trip Tom. I agree with Tom about sea life park. Utter rip off except the dolphin swim which was brill.

    Our highlights were:

Driving around Oahu checking out the beaches and surfers.
    Pearl Harbour.
The beaches (watch out for the undercurrents - very dangerous).
Sipping cocktails by the pool listening to the hula/dancers.
    Wakki beach.
    Chilling out.

The only regret I have is we didn't have enough time to see the other Islands and the "Lava Feild".

Check out my "what to do in Hawaii" thread..

On the Big Island, we went to see a vent that had had lava flowing from it for years. It stopped the day before we arrived:mad:
