Ishibashi posted my left handed Edwards on Friday :-), and I've been trying to use the link they gave me to track it:
    http://www.post.japanpost.jp/english/ems/ems.html
I have a tracking number like EIxxxxxxxJP, but I don't know which option to use Item No. Search, or Serial No. Search, in fact I tried both but none of them worked, I always get the screen for writing the number again and they say anything about the packet.

Has anyone used this before and can comment how it works? Thanks!

You'll want to click the Item No. Search on the EMS box. I've used it before, and it should work fine.

Also, it takes a while for the numbers to get on the system

I was clicking the wrong button! Instead of "Tracking starts" I was hitting "Tracking with serial numbers". Thanks Karl!

Yes, Ishibashi told me that it would take one day, that's why I didn't begin trying to track it until yesterday. Now, as I said in the previous message, it's working. My precious is in Tokyo now!

Not really, in fact I heard nothing about customs, I suspect they'll get to me in a few days.

Does it say In Customs on your tracking page?

That's one of the tricks I use. ;) Sending the items to your work. The company I work for is VAT exempt and therefore any packages sent here just come through without issue! Well so far! :)

I hope this site isin't monitored by the tax people  :(:o

VAT exempt organisations (like charities etc.) still pay VAT on things they buy, they're just exempt from paying VAT on money that comes in. Most normal businesses are just registered for VAT, which is very different. It means they have to extract VAT from clients to pay to the government, but get their VAT on expenses and purchases refunded. However, this is done via a VAT registered number which has to appear on the customs declaration of a purchased item, and has nothing to do with the postal address etc.

You've just got lucky so far, in short. ;)

Eoin. We don't pay VAT on anything. Hardware, software, services etc. No VAT. We are invoiced less VAT.

    I guess it's still lucky though ;)

So, the company is registered for VAT.

The people in customs still aren't looking at the address on the box before they decide what to do.

If in fact they were removing the tax on the basis of the item being purchased by your company, you would in fact be defrauding said company. Lucky for you, that's not what's happening, because it'd be impossible to process an import ex VAT without a valid VAT number! :p

Yeah, nothing to do with the shipping address, you just got lucky. It happens occasionally. At a guess, (talking guitars here, based on my experiences, and lads i know), id say 10% slip through. Its much more likely on a cheap stuff, doesnt pay them to waste time processing something for a minimal return.

OK then.... luck it is! And man have I been lucky :D

Kinda cool really because generally I don't have a great deal of luck.
