I went to Cineworld in the city centre today just for a change of scene (I haven't been to another cinema since the IMC opened). Was I in for a shock. 17 screens and 3 floors! I was impressed. However, I just didn't like my visit over all.

Firstly I paid 9.60Eur per ticket at 1.30 in the day! It then took 5 mins to actually find the screen because there was no staff to tell us where to find our screen therefore we missed the begining of the movie. We walked in and couldn't see a thing. There is no floor lighting at all. I had to feel my way round the screen until I found a seat which turned out to be BROKEN. :o

AND THEN there was 2 kids walking up and down at the front of screen and talking, and this was a 16 rating film with no staff to either tell them to shut up or kick them out. They seemed to be very under staffed.

And don't get me started on the cheese for the nachos! lol

From now on I'm sticking to the IMC Dun Laoghaire. Its smaller so the managment seem able to keep it better run. MUCH cheaper, closer to home for me, the seats aren't broken. Oh and the nacho's with cheese are yummy :p

    Movies @Dundrum
I like the IFI. It may not have all the movies I want to see but at least when I go everyone shuts the fúck up. Less people stuffing their fat chops with noisy food too. Nice place for a pint after as well.

    Bray (technically not Dublin)
I went to see March of the Penguins in the IMC Dun Laoghaire and wasn't impressed.

Firstly, the CC machine where you can purchase your ticket didn't print one so i had to queue anyway.

Secondly, they weren't letting any down to where the screens are. So i was stuck with about 40 other people, the majority of which were kids. I don't like kids. It all just seemed rather ****e.

    Vue is the best imo.

    Savoy Cinemas
UCI Coolock for me. Staff just seem to be that bit friendlier and you even get to know them after a while. Great way to run a cinema imo and always a good vibe to the place.

Cannot stand Cineworld/UGC/Virgin or whatever they call it this month...
It's more like an airport than a cinema.

    IMC Dun Laoghaire
Prefer Cineworld to most, but mainly because I used to go on Friday mornings after lectures and the place would be empty.

IMC is too expensive, but it is a nice cinema (better than Dundrum which is also too expensive).

The Ormonde is still cheap which is a plus, but it's not that great.

I live near Dun Laoghaire, but will still make the trip out to Cineworld. Student card gets a 6 60 ticket, and it is very handy indeed after lectures. Always have what you want to see too. And is aoibhinn liom screen 18.
Don't get me started on Bray cinema though...

Bray cinema is truly awful. Appallingly bad sound, evil seats, and I once had a film stop working because of a major fault in the production booth. I think the nastiness of the place also draws a particularly bad crowd (or maybe it is just because it is Bray) because it is always packed with talking skangers.

I gave my vote to the IMC, largely because it is the most local, and I used to work next door. Lots of screens and fairly cheap. Thheir biggest problem is their dispute with (I think) New Line, meaning that they don't get many of their films, such as A History Of Violence.

god i love Cineworld...it's quite cheap when you're a student: 6.60, and it's the only cinema i've been to that does student tickets all week. All the others are Monday-Thursday only.
Something i've always noticed is that there are always people telling you where the screen is, at least once on your way to the theatre, sometimes twice .....i've never been there at 1.30 in the day tho so i can't tell what it's like then.
and i love the seats there, so comfy :)

I don't get why everyone is saying cineworld is so cheap! 9.60 for an adult at 1.30 during the day is expensive to me. Its 7 euro during the day for an adult ticket and 9euro after 6 in IMC. Same wit students: its 6.60 in cineworld but 6 euro in IMC and on tuesday its 4 euro ALL day for students pitty my student card is expired

Although I hear Ormode in Stillorgan is the cheapest for tickets but maybe its cause its closing down.

Yes IMC is far cheaper than Cineworld . . . only 6 for student ticket 7 days a week and 4 on a tuesday with a special meal deal too . . .

Ormonde is cheap, but fairly run down . . .

I would say that dun lao is prob the cheapest of the large cinemas in dublin

You forgot the screen cinema by trinity, nice old cinema, 3 screens and no crap movies.

I would rank the top 3 as:

cineqorld (best cinema by a mile, but expensive and hard to get to. If I lived in town I would definately be a full time patron of this place)

IFI: See above for quality and hard to get-to-ness

IMC: Cheap prices (on tuesdays), not great on quality but close. My friends always go here so I tend to frequent here the most.

IMC is not bad but the selection there has got very boring of late. Very little foreign/arthouse stuff and for some reason they didn't show "The Departed" at all?

It has to be the Savoy for me. They had been doing €5 tickets when booked online (not sure if they still are) which was great. Great big screen 1 when you can get into. Other screens aren't as good but it's still my favourite.

    IMC Dun Laoghaire
Dun Laoghaire is my local cinema but I rarely go to it. It has a very poor selection, doesnt show any arthouse or foreign films and smaller films dont gte shown either.

My favourite is Cineworld, it has nice seats, it has a bar and it always shows the films that I want to see.
