Ok so i know it's old technology but i still like to watch the american football on ch 5 on sunday and monday nights.
The problem is that when i play a tape the sound is distorted as in there is a buzzing/crackling sound .
(not as noticeable when playing back recorded matierial. its a Philips VR 700.
I have had the top off and cleaned any part i could see with ipa. but no joy.
could the playback head be knackered?
it has not been used much as when i bought it was only for recording a couple of programs occasionaly. (i was using dvd for watching films).
(i dont want to go down the road of getting a pvr i wouldnt get any use from it )
    so what can i do?

Chuck it! Scan buy and sell for another second hand. About 50 euro max!
