Mobile Media Hard Disk

I've been considering an external HDD for storage & backup and came across the ATMT Mobile Media HDD

All the features of a hard disk and can be plugged into a TV to play video directly from the disk.

Has anyone used one and formed an opinion? It looks promising. I spend a lot of time burning VCDs & DVDs just so I can watch video in the living room. This device would save me a lot of bother.

Well there is a review here and they give it 3 out of 5 so not bad I guess.

keep in mind the only video this thing supports is MPEG 1 & 2 plus MPEG-4 ASP (XviD/DviX).

The website for the product is at this link I would have a read over the manual before buying to get an idea of how it works.

However note this unit does not have an ethernet link a streaming media player would save you having to copy the content over to it by playing it directly from your computer of course the downside being the computer must be on and it's not so portable.

Thanks for the feedback. The limited range of formats is a bit of a showstopper for me. :(

So now I'm looking at a separate HDD for backup and something like the Philips SLM5500 for watching PC based video on my TV.

More expensive to buy 2 devices but I'd get closer to what I actually want!

Bought one of the units from Maplin with 160G HD, was thinking of getting a recordable HD .. but how often do you record off the TV nowadays ?

Had been downloading from internet and playing from laptop.

The unit works well only downside is the whirring noise of HD (turn up TV volume) and the remote control appears quite fragile (so make sure not to sit on it)
