Can you jump the pay scale in Ireland?

I've been looking on the TUI and Dept Ed wesbite for information about this, but can't seem to find anything.

I'm currently teaching in the UK but hope to eventually teach in Ireland. Given the lack of jobs, this may take a while and I will probably be 3 or 4 points up the UK salary scale at that point.

So - assuming this is post any probationary period - would my pay in Ireland start at the bottom or at a level appropriate to my experience?

In the UK, if you have worked in a relevant area, with young people or in education abroad, prior to gaining registration as a UK teacher, you can have this experience count and possibly 'jump the scale' a point or two.

Just wondering what the situation was with this, as it would certainly make me think more carefully about the timing of any move back.

At primary level you get incremental credit for years worked in recognised schools abroad so I'd imagine it's the same at second level.

Thanks a million for that killbill. Having the correct term helped me find it on the ASTI site.
Should anyone else be interested, an agreement was reached regarding relevant experience in 2002: http://www.asti.ie/circ02/PPT0902.htm

That's grand then, my hand isn't forced. They're throwing jobs and training at us here, so I'm in no rush. It's more a long-term plan so I just wanted to make sure I would get the recognition.
