After last weeks (IMHO) being the worst show so far we get probably the best.

Good acting from all, the good guys dont win, a family gets destroyed, and we get to learn a lot more about the past of Capt Jack.

Black spot being the off-the-peg stepfather who was a stereotypical git.

I have deliberatly stayed away from other sources of info on him but, assuming that he really was killed by the Daleks and brought back by Rose, he must have aquired his immortaility afterwards and travelled back in time to at least 1909 and lived his life since on contemporary Earth. Right or wrong?

Regs here will be happy to know that next week its sort of like Torchwood meets Enid Blython and they get away from Cardiff for a bit (and the tarts being attaked by seagulls whilst eating their chips in tank tops).

Didn't really care for this one much. Seemed aimless in places, and all a little obvious

I enjoyed this one but the other half didn't so much. The plot wasn't original in the sense that, once more, we had the child being considered special (I think the fact I had recently read "Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell" influenced me heavily) but it worked for me mostly and I found the fairies in it generally freaky (except when they were attacking the father and the show's limited budget for CGI was once more shown up).

Enjoyed the "petals in the throat" aspect, although it did tickle my memory as having seen something similiar in one of the spinoff books (p'raps I'm recalling "The Eater of Wasps").

I did enjoy the fact that they didn't win though - hurrah! The team stomping off in a huff because of Jack's decision was a little tired though because it would seem odd that they've never had to make a difficult choice before. I assume they've been working for ages now, not just since Gwen joined. Oh well..

Bit more insight into Jack's past now and what he was presumably doing since we left him behind. His immortality, btw, is definetely attributable to Rose - that's confirmed. We just don't know what happened to him in the interim..

Hope next week enables a slightly more original story than those we've seen so far though. We shall see.
