    Cheers.

Yeah, saw them yesterday in Game while hunting for an Xbox HD AV cable.

Now does anyone know where the hell I can find one of those, an Xob HD AV cable ? Might as well hijack this thread as Nodgers question is answered and my question is practically the same !

 Are you talking about the component connection for the orignial Xbox?

Ebay is probably your best bet.

Is the cable that comes with the Premium Xbox the component one? If so then that's the one i have.

Does the VGA cable produce a better image then this on an LCD tv?

    It's this one here http://www.xbox.com/en-US/hardware/highdefinitionavpack.htm
When connected you the xbox you get a new options menu under your display settings which allows you to choose what display settings you want such as 720p etc.

eBay or some online shop is going to be your best bet for that. AFAIK it was never released here and only works on US consoles (or ones modded to US region)

I'm only opting for the VGA cable because my TV doesn't have HD component inputs, only DVI/HDMI.

hold on a second. your TV has HDMI input... can you not then get a HDMI to HDMI cable?? why would you get a VGA?

 God damn it hurts to read some of this shíte.
    • The 360 doesnt support HDMI
    • There is no point buying a component cable for your xbox, if it is not modded to output NTSC signals or a US console
    • VGA and component cables with the 360 both allow outputs of 720p and 1080i - But to achieve 1080p, you need a compatible set - and you HAVE to use the VGA cable.

The 360 can output 1080p over component if your TV supports it.

    ;)

    http://www.majornelson.com/archive/2006/10/15/Show-198-The-one-about-1080p-and-Family-Settings.aspx
Its in that show. But due to licensing there are some limits to what you can output at 1080p over component so they've just said its over VGA.

And if you setup a 360 with the component lead the 1080p option is there.

I coulda sworn it was over VGA only, and if it works better, it might as well be.

i use mine at 1080p over component and i have to say there is not much of a difference.

see the difference between 1080i and 1080p

is the i stands for interlaced and the p means progressive.

interlaced means they show the lines a different way.

the even numbered lines are shown then the odd numbered ones.

with progressive they are shown all at the same time which gives a better and sharper image.

now here is the good part lcd's and plasma tvs are progressive in nature so they show the image at 1080p anyway really.

so if you can only get 1080i and have an lcd or plasma tv that doesnt really matter it is the same as 1080p really.

Didnt ask for an explaination man ;) Just a mix up whether or not 1080p is available through component.

Well if they wanted to know, They wouldn't be looking at an xbox thread about a vga cable

Well people who have xbox's and are talking about different types of cables might want to know, don't you think?!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 67 ✭✭Moe Lester

here the reason i explained it was because even if you cant get 1080p over component cable doesnt really matter as it really is the same as 1080i on plasma's and lcd screen.

sorry if that was not allowed here but i just thought it would help for people to know that it doesnt really matter.

but yes you can use it over component aslong as you tv allows analogue connections to go to 1080p as some tv makers said that hdmi would be the native connection for a hd source so some decieded to rescrit the analogue connections from going to 1080p because analogue connections are open to interference and fear that it might cause damage or a bad picture display.

1080i and 1080p are NOT the same. the majority of HD ready badged tvs are only able to display 720p or 1080i. if you set your xbox at 1080p the tv will downscale it to its native resolution which on most tvs is 720p, which is why you dont see any difference.

 God damn it hurts to read some of this shíte.

Don't be so condescending, the power of the mod has gone to your head. Hope it hurts as much having egg on your face as "this shíte" now that you've been contradicted by some more knowledgeable than yourself.

Forums are for people to ask questions they don't know the answers too, if you continue to reply in such an idiotic manner people will in future not use this forum to ask similar questions.

Ciaran, thanks for that, now I know why I haven't been able to find one.

Dunno what your talking about mate, take a chill pill. And I wasn't contradicted either, It's still partially true that component from the 360 doesn't support 1080p on CERTAIN tv's.

Forums are for people to ask questions they don't know the answers too

In the right thread, I couln't care less if people ask questions, I actually enjoy trying to help people, and I did - but asking the same questions that have been answered again again is silly. If you want an answer use search, make a new thread, or use google.
if you continue to reply in such an idiotic manner people will in future not use this forum to ask similar questions.

If I continue to try offer advice, people wont ask questions anymore?
That doesn't make any sence mate.

Yeah, answering a question with "God damn it hurts to read some of this shíte" is a really good and positive way of helping someone.

As ffocused said, you wont see the difference of 1080p till youve a screen capable of natively showing 1080p.(and probably a 720p native screen beside it to compare.)
...and 1080i on an LCD/plasma is not actually 1080p, it really, really isnt.
Cause damage or a bad picture display? How?
You'd want to be using some seriously awfully shielded cables for a bad picture display but damage?

Jip im with GrumPy on this one, these questions have been asked every week, and people just refuse to search for them.
