Thinking of changing from Regular Slinky (.10-.46) to their hybrid string set (.10-.52), which I can't remember the name of, but saw in Sound Gear earlier. Apparently it'll need just a bit of a truss rod adjustment when they're on, which Jimmy's going to do when I bring in the guitar, but just curious as to whether anyone else has been trying these? I like the idea of the extra bottom chunk, and break a lot of low E's, so this'll be interesting. Also going to have the bridge checked for nicking while I'm in, just in case, but the extra bottom force is an interest. Anyone used these or have opinions on hybrid string sets?

I used WebStrings version of these on my old Ibanez. Loved them. I generally get a 48 low string. I like the thicker lower end too.

I use to allways break the crap out of EB's, I use D'Daddario now and rarely if ever have teh same problem. I change my strings pretty frequently now though too.. but even at the time the EB's could break within a day.. was bizarre. Nothing to do with the bridge or the nut either cause as soon as I switched to D'Daddario.. it stopped happening..

Uh that had nothing really to do with your thread, I'm just saying is all :)

you're thinking of the skinny top heavy bottom.

i use them on my strat and they are the absolute ****, they are amazing.

    thick lower end ftw tbh.

they are 8 euros in musicmaker as opposed to 8.30 euros on thomann.de

where abouts is sound gear located?

Those are the ones, couldn't think of the name. :) Soundgear's on South Richmond Street, by Portobello College.

I used to use Daddarios, but didn't like them much, find the Ernies much nicer, clearer and meatier by far.

I used to use the Ernie Skinny Top Heavy Bottom on my Squire (don't laugh, it has a hotrails) but changed to the Not Even Slinky (12-16-24p-32-44-56) as I never tune it higher than CGCFAD. The hybrids were good, but I prefer these.

Bah i love my Ernie balls, and i dunno how youve managed to break strings ive never broken an EB, although i cant say that about dadario.

Also on a more serious note is it erally that important to fiddle with the truss rod when changing strings i can honestly say ive never once ****ed around with it and ive gone all the way from 9's to 13's on my ltd over the years.

`Have these on now, .10-.52, and the extra chunk is brilliant.

Truss rod adjustments are more necessary for some guitars than others.
If you have a slim necked guitar that is more flexible that a big sturdy neck then it is very necessary. I have a strat that was fine for string changes, but the thin necked Pacifica I have would not be so fine.

My opinion on the strings was simply that I dont really play in a style that benefits from the extra heavy strings so I switched back to regular slinky after I tried them out.
