Im looking for an IR reciever/transmitter that can pick up signals and display the raw signal on screen/allow me to send out my own signals
ive found a few on google but im not sure which i should go for and $50 is quite a lot to just splash out if it doesnt work or wont do what i want it to do

heres whats caught my eye so far:
    http://www.usbuirt.com/overview.htm
    http://www.home-electro.com/tira2.php

if anyone knows anything about this kind of product, has seen one locally (that would help greatly) or has one themselves and would recommend it please (or just anything at all to contribute)
    any comments are appriciated

I posted a similar thread in the HTPC/Media Center forums, though mine was specifically for controlling a Sky box. I can't find the thread, but if you step through the forum you should find it as it wasn't too long ago.

Just a question, though - what do you mean by "displaying the raw signal on the screen"?

have you heard of winlirc or lirc....its a type of receiver/transmitter you can buy (or build) that plugs into your serial port. There's plugins available for it for lots of programs including winamp. I was able to build one for a couple of euro. I'm sure you could get a program or write one that would be able to display some raw signal information on screen.

thanks for the replys guys but the lirc can only recieve signals and it wouldnt really be used so much as to control my computer but as to take IR signals in and analyse them and then manipulate them and send them back out in varing forms
