    hey guys,

Im looking for a bit of software. Basically I have a PC that is crashing every 30 seconds and I dont know what is causing it. It crashes out for about 2 seconds every 30 seconds or so. It drops any dial up connections and sound etc etc for those 2 seconds. I'd like a program that can record the CPU usage and what applications use up the CPU at any one time if ya get me. Basically I just want to see what app is causing it.... and Task Manager isnt good enough

    Any ideas?

    Ta

Would Event Viewer tell you anything?

SysInternal's Process Monitor can log to a file.

google for Hi-jack this and download the program, run this to find out what apps, and services are running when you power up the PC, use the utility to stop everything but the bare minimum, run msconfig and do the same as above for environment variables (start>>Run>>msconfig)
Afterwards statup the programs listed in HI-Jacj this one by one to see which one is causing the problem.
If this does not resolve the problem then you have a hardware interrupt problem (two pieces of HW have the interrupt number, known as a conflict).
Lastly your CPU fan might be clogged from sucking up dirt, this will cause crashes and powerdowns, eventually your chip could get so hot it pops off the board, if it's a laptop use a can of compressed air, if it's a PC open it up and remove the dirt (you may have two or three fans in there).
When Two PCI cards stop functioning like modem and sound it's most likely hw related.
