Halo 3 Announcements

Becuase of the 5 year anniversary of Halo a couple of announcements have been made on www.bungie.net.

Quick summary:

New maps for Halo 2 in spring (although you will need to pay and have a 360)
New ad for Halo 3 come december (will be done in CG though)
There will be public beta testing of Halo 3's online multiplayer element

They have also released a new screenshot which I tried to attach but the file was too big. Doesn't look as impressive as the E3 showing (IMO).

There was no E3 showing

The trailer they showed at E3 was said to be running in realtime. The level was said to be somewhere around the middle of the game.

I got a lower res picture of the game that I'll attach along with one from E3. Maybe I'm only saying that cause it's a screenshot and not a trailer.

Well as I've not yet got a 360, I've always said I'd have to have one for Halo 3 (although Gears... has been quite appealing too)... so now it looks like I'll have to have one in time for their multiplayer beta, and I'm sure I'm not alone there.

Great idea all the same, and it's cool to see them offer this up (hopefully for free and open to all) before the game is ready to go.
Interesting about the maps too; do you need a 360 because they're more demanding?

I think the new maps & beta being for the 360 only is a drive to get more people to switch to the 360 before Halo 3 ships.

I hope the beta is not restricted to US users.
