Sitting on 11k, about average, blinds 75-150. Table is tight enough. Utg limps, plus about 3 others, I do on the button with Q8 clubs. Blinds check. Flop 5c6c7c. UTG (who has been quite aggressive, bets out 500) I flat call, everybody folds. Turn, blank. He bets 1500, I make it 3.5k, he INSTANTLY goes all in and has me covered. He's been all in for all his chips twice already and uncalled. He seems like an OK player, but not too experienced with live poker I don't think. Call or fold?

Is there a need to put your tournament life on the line on a draw?

    Why reraise him?

    Edit: I fold here btw.

Because we have flopped the third nut flush.

If I think its likely this guy is a pair and a draw merchant then I have to call here. The instant all-in suggests to me a bluff a little more often then not so I think I call.

A flopped nut flush will probably moody it a bit and if he's got the nut flush well we have a str flush redraw!! :p

    call

apologies - I misread initial post - You have flopped flush and are not drawing for one. I thought you only had 8 high str flush draw.

To answer - better players could surely get away from this hand. Me I couldnt and I call.

yeah, i think i call here. You beat a lot of other flushes and the added possibility of a str8 flush means the 4c will get involved here a lot more than he should

call and squeeze your butt cheeks together real hard

I close my eyes and call, but its VERY tough imo. He 'insta' pushes, hhhmmmm I think he possibly puts you on a drawing hand also and is trying to push you off it with top pair, two pair maybe trips. I think he could hold a weak ace here with the Ac in his hand or KJ as he limped. The fact he's been aggressive up to now I think would swing it and in the end I would put his holdings range here as AcX, two pair, trips or possibly 4x4c. The call is very read dependent and its a hard one.

I think the flop or the river is a much better place to raise than the turn.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,187 ✭✭✭Flushdraw

If the table is tight enough, he could have limped with Jc10c or 10c9c or a small pair hoping to see a flop. Youre only behind to Acxc, Kcxc and 4c3c so i'd call here and pray he turns over a smaller flush

Just seen NFR's report than DOC went out on unlucky flush situation so i'm pressuming this is the hand..

    call.
    lose.
    call again.

Early in a tourney a lot of aggressive players will gamble and push a bit to build a stack. Here I would not like it, but would have to call, he could be making this move with Ac x or a set or even a overpair, AA/KK. If he as the nut flush, why not just flat call your raise or min-raise you back to extract as much as possible.

I would have like to raise on the flop also to see how much he likes his hand and to protect my hand against a 4th club.

You also have outs if your wrong here.

You have the call. It sucks if you are beat by a higher flush or he caught a full house / higher flush on the river - but you must call.

He could have flopped a straight, two pair, trips - be pushing a slow played overpair to the board with a club; in short there are too many things you beat that he could reasonably have for you to fold.

    Yup. Ship it.

I called anyway, and as Tony said he had the higher flush. What's more he had Ac9c for one of the blockers for my open ended straight flush draw, needless to say I missed my one outer! I was fairly sick to be honest. I'm not entirely happy with how I played it. I think I kind of pot committed myself with the 3.5k raise on the turn. I just didn't want to see another club/ paired board on the river and have a tough call/ fold to face with 2k of my chips in the middle. I should have raised the flop 100%, and having not raised the flop I should have just called him down. But I still don't think I'll manage to get away from it even if I do raise the flop. Just cold decked I suppose...

Very unlucky Dave. I think that if you raise the flop, you get away from it the turn pairs or another club comes, if its a blank, i'd find it difficult to fold here. Another time, another place, it works in your favour

In this situation, I will definitely call. In view of the fact the game is tight, I think i will have a success.

Well it could be worse, I could have not travelled half way around the world for this to happen :) .

Very impressed with Singapore, absolutely great city, well worth a visit. Went out and bought myself this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000IHBZHC/ref=pd_kar_gw_2/104-7052100-9425525 as a consolation :)

    call.

would they play the Kcxc any differently. i.e. they are protectign incase you have the Ac?? im sure its hard to fold here but having said that the King hihg flush is a possibility. i also think to the EPT where Roy Brindley called the all in on the first hadnit hink with Jack high flush so sometimes i guess you go with your read. hl dave though.

call every time, also I would have raised the flop almost every time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,679 ✭✭✭Daithio

I don't think it's a 100% clear call as everybody says. The main reason I called was because of the pot odds I was getting, and I figured that there was a decent chance I was ahead, but not much. Probably close enough to 50-50, maybe he's ahead a little more of the time than this, but I was getting the odds I think. If we'd both started the hand with 20k I'm folding it every time.

I think in general the instant all in push is more likely to be a hand with the Ac and no other club here. Is it possible he limped with A8o or A7o? Maybe AA.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,537 ✭✭✭Ste05

Ye, I'm not sure it's a definite 100% call everytime, but didn't think it'd be of any use to say it, I'm sure it's still bugging the sh1t out of you. I just can't see him doing this with a straight, or a smaller flush, I also think it would be highly unlikely he'd be in there with a naked Ac or Kc, but still very difficult to pass it up.
