Registration questions

Another car has caught my eye, its originally from the US but imported to the UK and now in Ireland still on UK plates as owner never bothered to re-reg it here.

I ran the UK plate on the HPI site (the free bit) and the model & year are correctly reported so at least the plates not completely made up..

But the UK V5 cert is no good for registering the car here (as a classic) is it was imported to the UK less then 30 years ago ?? I'll need the original USA registration docs to prove is over 30 ??
If the original US docs are not available is there anyway to proof to the VRT folks the true age of the car ??

    What car is it?
I know that Volkswagen still issue "birth certs" for all their vehicles back as far as the early 50s, maybe something similar can be arranged?

Is it very close to the 30 year mark? Evidence of the model, engine size and features for that particular year might work.

My '72 had no docs but the VRT guy (in Santry) just found a stamped metal plate in the door frame giving the date of manufacture as Jan 1972. People lose docs over time - they have to be able to appraise the car other ways.
