Free image editing software?

Anyone know of a free, quick and easy graphic editing application? I'm designing an icon for an application I'm developing, all I need to do is superimpose one image on top of another and maybe add a shadow or 2. Thanks!

Seashore might be what your looking for. It's an open source app for Mac that seems to work for me quite well.

FWIW The Gimp is pretty much a free Photoshop, although some people are driven dememted by its interface. It may be overkill for what you meed though...
