To complete or not to complete?

A player at the home game last night (€25- FO) said he will always at least complete the sb in an unraised pot.

I was just wondering how sound this theory is in the long run not withstanding heads up play.

Under what circumstances is it correct to fold to the BB with or without limpers?

Early and mid tourney I will always at least complete.
Late tourney I will often fold rags with or without limpers.

its bad. The tighter I play in the sb the less money I lose there. I played 30k hands at 50 1 recently and made a profit in the sb which is unheard of, and I played very very tightly.

What the hell are you doing playing that limit?

it's dependent on the number of limpers i suppose - the more limpers the greater the value & often worth the call.

I know position is awful, but only continue with the hand if you hit a magical flop. When you do, you will often get paid.

Strangely enough an example from this morning:

I make up BB from SB after 3 limpers in hand on 9 seat cash table.

    I have 9 4

    Flop 99Q

I got a return of 30/1 for the extra money invested.

But as HJ has stated, in the long run it will probably cost you money (but don't mind him -he's a party-pooper ;) )

I'm not exactly sure how many limpers you need for your call to be valid - anyone??

with AA you dont need many limpers for your call to be valid.
with 72 you cant have enough callers for your call to be valid.

even with 72 you are getting value with x number of limpers??

for eg: everyone limps at 9 seat table blinds 1/2

you are putting in 1 into a 18 pot

you have not got a 6% chance of winning/drawing the hand at the moment????

generally i play very tight in the small blind.

if there are a lot of limpers il complete with any 2 cards and hope to hit an orgasmic flop.

this seems to work enough of the time to justify completing the blind- unless i pick up a monster in the SB pf then il pump the sh#t outta it

i think you may have just about a 6% (or slighty higher) chance of flopping two pair or better but you dont know if the BB is not going to raise so even with that odds you can profitably fold 72.

What are peoples strategy in the latter stages of tourneys where the blinds become significant, and its folded around to you in the small blond where for e.g. you've got 30k and blinds are at 800/1600?

    a) raise every time
    b) fold like a cheap hooker
    c) limp

hmmm, i always limped in the early to mid stages of STT play, i play very tight otherwise so considering im getting decent odds to call i do no matter what i have. As the blinds increase i tighten up though but will still generally play anything with Jx up or connectors or even connecters seperated by 2 dots eg 68o since hitting a pair shorthanded has more value at a table of 4 or so people than a full table.

In the latter stages of an STT tourney if im competing with another player for ITM and were pretty close and hes the big blind i wont fold the sb to him unless he is raising alot with the exception that if someone else raises or calls and i have rags ill fold knowing at least he has a fight on for big blind.

Does anyone know any good online articles on this as i always taught this was a decent way to play but it seems not

It doesnt make sense to complete the sb based on how many limpers there are. The more limpers there are, the greater the chance there is of someone flopping something very good goes up as well. So if you complete your looking to hit 2 pair with 72, which will nearly always be the worst 2 pair, have no one else flop any better yet pay you off with a 1 pair hand, and have your hand stand up. I like those odds.

Doesnt harrington on holdem2 say your not a man if you dont complete the sb?

Is your nick a variation of your old one? I think I may have given you some cash at the tables.

No, I thought boisarin could have been it. He looked to be playing like a total rock, only calling with AK as I bet away with my AQ on A high FT&R

What was your vpip in sb if you don't mind me asking. I have a feeling I'm leaking a lot of cash here.
