Hi all, this is my first post so bear with me if I seem a bit naive
I am moving to Germany in january and have heard that I can keep paying for my account here in eire, bring my sky box and card with me and buy a dish over there and still have the delights of viewing Sky Tv.
Is this true and if so how easy can it be done. Cheers

Its as easy as you have described, you've more or less said what you need to do.

If you keep your Irish bank account open and use it for direct debit purposes, that's fine. You can pay by credit card, people have used their non-Irish issued credit cards quite successfully; ring up Sky and change the method of payment. If you can, bring the dish with you, and if you fancy putting the dish up yourself, thats ok too.

Will you have an contactable Irish address for Sky? (e.g. relative)

There are free-to-air and other pay-tv options open to you which others can fill in here. :)

You may need a larger dish, e.g. 80cm in French side of Germany and 1.1m in East for Astra 2D (RTE, BBC, ITV).

    Another link!
1.1m in East for Astra 2D (RTE, BBC, ITV)
Not a chance, in Berlin or Dresden you'll need at least 1,50m with no weather reserve, 1,80m is standard size there for 2d (RTÉ, BBC, ITV).

And check if you can put up a dish. Some landlords can be very fuzzy about this. :(

You'll need a 80 - 90 cm dish. I am in Munich and did the same thing. Whatever you do, do NOT hook your box upto the phone line!

If you still have accommodation in Ireland (e.g. your parents house), and have a decent broadband connection in that house, you could consider getting a Slingbox, which will allow you to leave your Sky box in Ireland, controlling it on your PC in Germany. The quality will not be as good but it works very well. There is a virtual Sky remote in the software which allows you to use all functions of Sky/Sky+ as if you were in the room.

    Hello,

This is my first post on this site & I'm looking for some help!

I'm also living in Germany & have SKY. An English friend gave us an old sky box & we bought a large satellite dish & hooked it all up (We didn't need a sky card for some reason).

We have a lot of channels; all the BBC & ITV ones, but we'd love to get RTÉ & Channel 4.

Does anyone know where I can get the codes for RTÉ especially?

    I'd be REALLY grateful!

    Thanks :)
