Icons displaying incorrectly.

I have just installed a new HDD & a fresh Windows XP Pro install.
I normally keep a folder on my Desktop which contains shortcuts to my most often used sites.

I have found in the past that Windows being Windows, it often loses its icon pictures if they are linked to the actual site that the shortcut points to. I normally use a set of icons which are stored on my system & that sorts the problem.

    So now to my issue:

I have just created a folder on my Desktop.
Then I created my shortcuts (Also on the Desktop) and changed their icons so that they use ones stored on my system.
All the icons display perfectly on my Desktop, but the minute I move them into the new folder on my Desktop, all the shortcut icons lose their pictures & revert to the standard IE icon set.
If I move them back onto the Desktop, all the icons get their pictures back.

I have refreshed the icon cache & increased the icon cache size but noting has fixed the problem.

    Anyone come across this before?

    Any help would be great.

just try to create the icons where you want the shortcuts to actually be ( rather than creating , and them moving them )

I've just tried that option mr_disc but it is still reverting to the standard IE icon. When I attempt to change it, it does flicker as it tries to change but returns to the standard icon.
It's as if a default setting is over riding my changes.

The fact that the icons display fine on the desktop & only change when they're created in or moved to a folder would suggest that it may be a folder setting? I just can't seem to see where it might be.

Thanks a bunch for your input though mr_disc, all advice is helpful. :)

    Well, I'll be damned.....

    It's sorted. :D

I was focusing on the folder settings but could see nothing of relevance.

Then the light bulb came on :o

It was something so simple in the end.

It was the Folder "VIEW" option.
    It was defaulted to "TILE"
It should have been set to "ICON" view.

    All happy again ;)
