    That's a strange one...

Surprised they didn't at least give him until the New Year but Charlton have been pretty appalling so far this season and Dowie's signings didn't seem to be doing too well. Oh well at least he gave Newcastle back the 2 million quid they spent on Amdy Faye :)

Although, I'd say it's more likely he's left after a disagreement over transfers or something else on the running of the club, I wouldn't see the board sacking him this soon.

Very suprised by that. I wonder who will take his place. I cant think of many decent choices. Curbishley definilty wont go back there.

He might have a newcastle job to apply to soon.

That's a strange one alright, I didn't think the Charlton board would be that quick to pull the trigger.
Maybe they weren't though, SSN are still a little sketchy on the details.

The news is a big shocker to all the fans too.
    An interesting stat

    1 manager (curbs) = 15 years.
    dowie = 15 games.

rumors of a bust up after the wigan game that they lost.

I thought this was coming sooner than later, i thought every1 did. U have to look at the league position and players and admit they r a lot better than bottom and need a manager who can make them play well again

Its not like Dowie to walk away like that and also its not like Charlton to give the manager a sack. The club doesnt have the finances to support the sacking of the coach like that.

Charlton had a hard start to the season with some tough games against Manu, Chelsea Liverpool and Arsenal, these are hard cames to win no matter who the manager.

Bottom of the league is tough but success in Carling cup is some consolation. Newcastle on the other hand second from bottom are the club that really should be looking at their manager and asking tough questions.

Charlton are not a great team nor are they a poor team. they have to do with a small budget. Dowie bought in a lot of players that didnt work out, but the likes of Andy Reid was agreat additions. Scott Carson (on loan) has proven very good.

There is more to this story than meets the eye.

That will be wiped off as soon as he reads the paper and sees where palace are in the championship.

It's probably not good news from an Irish perspective as Andy Reid has been excellent for them so far in a central role behind the striker(s). He'll probably be pushed out wide again by whoever takes over.

Who in their right mind would touch Charlton now? Rock bottom ffs. New manager's nightmare, would take someone mighty to get them out of trouble and frankly I dont think the club can afford/attract such a person.

15 games gone, this is madness. Musta been something going on, does sound bit fishy...

Where's Big Ron when you need him.

This whole thing smells funny, Charlton had alot of injuries and as said above some tough fixtures.

Dowie wouldn't have walked he had bought in the players he thought would do a job for him and he has only really had them fit 2-3 games.

I also don't think that Charlton are big on sacking managers either, 15 years and all that!

Definately some kind of bust up somewhere, No one is going to do a better job until January anyway. If someone comes in now they will have a fit Charlton squad (for the most part) to choose from, something Dowie hasn't really had.

Harsh, very harsh in my opinion.

Charlton are doing bad but Im still surprised at that. It takes good quality manager to come to a club bottom of the league and turn things around. I doubt Charlton will be able to attract that kind of manager. So I dont see how this improves the situation.

/pops down to bookies to put 20 quid on Bryan Robson :)

damnit, another 4 weeks and spurs could have had 3 points against them!

gotta admit, i didnt see it coming. i actually thought it was begining to turn around now that dowie had managed to get them playing they way he wanted them to.

on the other hand, ive never liked dowie, and ive never been confident that he is a good manager, so i think its probably better all round for charlton.

    Ha. :D

It was on the cards for a while, I think. Charlton, for the last few year's, were always a mid-table team. Never in danger of getting relegated but also never really challenging for top european places.

Dowie has always struck me as not being the strongest tactical manager - he seems to do the first thing that comes into his head rather than sit down and plan ahead - something Curbishly was always willing to do, IMO.

Glenn Hoddle would be my favourite, might put a few quid on him.

Claudio Ranieri, exactly the type of manager they need.

    Football logic strikes again! :D

What the fupp do they think they're doing?

    Mike.

agree - it would have been hard eneogh for them to stay up , before ousting Dowie !
especially with some of the promoted clubs doing ok .
