Using Limewire, Run a Virus scan on the downloaded files to be sure they are not infected, alot of limewire stuff can be.

Obviously something has a locking handle on the file, Download Unlocker and you will it in the menu when you right click. I have never come across a file it could not unlock and delete yet. It's a very handy thing to have it is a freeware and downloads in jig time regardless of what sort of connection you have.

THe issue is that the file itself is longer than the file length windows can handle for deleting ie 255 chars

What you need to do is the following.

If you are using Windows XP Pro disable simple file sharing. Share the My Music folder. Map the folder from your machine to a drive letter. THen delete the file.

    See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320081/en-us

    Alternatively you could use http://www.purgeie.com/delinv/index.htm

If you have Spybot or Hijack This (both free), there are options to delete files that won't delete. Don't know if they'll work in this situation. Ms solution might be the best.

Launch a command prompt (Start bar -> RUN -> cmd.exe).

In there change to the directory where the file is.

    eg. type (if XP)

    cd "%HOMEPATH%\my documents\my music"

Once in there you can try two things.

    1) type

    dir /X

This will list filenames in old windows format. In your case it may say DJFRIT~1.mp3.

You can rename using that name. eg type.

    ren DJFRIT~1.mp3 DJ.mp3

    2) If that fails to work then the issue is with the directory length. You can bypass this typing the following commands.

    from the command prompt type.

    subst s: "%homepath%\my documents\my music"

This will create an S: drive. In Explorer change to that drive and rename the file.

When your finished make sure you are not in the S: drive (even in explorer) and from the command prompt type.

    subst s: /D

    Or reboot.
