According to their new video reforms will include using fully armed Apache gunships and harriers for search and rescue operations and B2 stealth bombers for dropping first aid kits. It may have made more sense if they used vehicles that could actually preform these tasks.

It is Green Day after all. They're not exactly known for having a grasp of the Military.

I think it would have looked more realistic if they used UH-60s and C-130s.

That was pretty bizarre. (and actually rather well done, visually)

I think it was a statement that the military has spent too much on weapons of war which have no purpose in helping people.

    But yes, that's ludicrous.

    NTM

I think they were milking the whole 'why weren't troops withdrawn from iraq to help new orleans hurricane victims' bit. They used combat aircraft i'd say just for effect, if they used practical vehicles owned by the armed forces it would look pretty much like the actual footage (all be it on a larger scale) and people might think: 'wow it's a good thing they really did that then' or 'this is just stock footage from a disaster, this a low selling point even for U2 and greenday standards'.

    A great video,
I wouldnt take it too literally as the other posters have said.
I think it's a fair enough reflection on priorities in the US at the moment.
Sending billions on war while parts of the country itself are in a bad state is not exactly a good thing.

I think the video is actually about what the US Government should be fighting, rather than what they are fighting, which makes perfect sense.

Sounds a bit like bill hicks gag that if we can make smart missiles why not make smart bananas that launch themselves at starving peoples mouths

The thing that the absurdity of the imagery highlights the fact that it's not as simple as it sounds

From a technical point of view it's a cool video - really well done.

However I guess they used those aircraft as they are ones the people recognise and associate with the US military

Song is growing on me as well!

And I thought it was a Propaganda film for US Army recruitment drive.
The US army is losing many potential recruits & this video glossed & romanticized over.

Hmmm... interesting. Never thought U2 would say that the Americans using choppers and the army to enfore martial law on Katrina.

Also, I find it interesting that they didn't just show the US using the same planes that they used after some tsumani hit some conutry. How they helped convoys, used (armed, me thinks) choppers to bring aid to civilians in places where there were no roads going to them, and using the planes to drop off supplies (tho mainly, they used the choppers). Of course, why would they. Thats good, and good stuff doesn't sell.
