I have recently bought the following cable from PCworld...
    http://www.audiooutfitter.com/store/103752/AV22101-03.html

I have tried connecting this cable from my Dell 510M laptop to my Samsung LCD HDTV. The dell laptop contains an intel extreme 2 graphics card and seems to recognise the TV. I don't seem to be able to get any image to appear on the tv though after trying to configure settings on the display panel. anyone know of any detailed steps so I can try to figure this out, most steps i've found in google refer to different graphics cards apart from the intel extreme variety.

A quick Google search shows that the Dell 510M comes with a VGA port would it not be a lot easier to plug that into your Samsung HDTV as most of them come with VGA or DVI ports specifically for that purpose (unless of course you are using that for something else) ?

As for the s-video issue not sure on that one. I have a Samsung HDTV & have plugged in s-video notebook into it and didn't have any problems but it had ATI graphics. Have you ticked the box to extend my desktop in the display properties/settings tab.

I connect my laptop to my tv via similar cable you except that there is a scart adapter in the end that looks like this

The first problem I encountered was that I found in order get the picture up I had to plug the cable into the TV while my laptop is turned of then I booted it up. Secondly I had to go into the advanced settings to make sure the graphics card output was set to PAL and not NTSC. Hope this is of some use.

I don't use one myself but i've set a few up for people.

From what I remember I had to play with the Cards Visual control panel to get it to display on S-Video. You should be able to sort it from there however it was a quite well hidden option.

You may also have to hit the Function (FN) key and one of the number keys (it has a picture of a monitor on it) to swap it from VGA to S-Video.

Doing the above you should see it.

Oh and if the pic comes out in black and white check to make sure the output is PAL-I.

    G'luck.

Thanks for the feedback folks. I checked the s-video cable last night and its only got 4 pin connections whereas my laptop has 7. So I will need to get a different s-video connection.

Just another question: I have bought a Z-5500 Logtiech 5.1 sound system for my xbox360 but I'm hoping to see movies through my laptop onto my LCD with this audio. Hopefully the S-video connection I get will sort out the view but how do I get the sound out of those speakers? The last connection I got had 2 yellow audio connectors which did not seem to fit in any ports on the laptop?

I'm not entirely sure you can the laptop only has headphones out & microphone input correct ?

Without the outputs for 5.1 analogue or digital I can't see it happening.

You have a few options, acquire a Dell docking station that has SPDIF outputs for digital hook up to your receiver (if you have one).

I don't know if it would work or not but this Dell cable offers SPDIF output however it mentions its for an XPS laptop so I would imagine not. You also face the problem of it being only on the US Dell site.

Another solution is to acquire an Audigy 2 ZS for the laptop.

There are some external USB 5.1 devices like this out their as well.
