Hey, I'm using WinXP sp2, and I recently attached an old 20Gb hard drive from a former PC to the one I'm using at the moment (it's internal btw).
My user account is the admin one, and I was wondering is there a way to hide the HDD from other users so only I can see it in My Computer, but others can't see anything?

    Thanks

There is a way but it will only hide it in Explorer and it will do it for everyone - even the admin account.

If the drive is D the you just need to run GPedit.msc and go to:
User Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Explorer and select the option "Hide these specified drives in My Computer" and tick the "D drive only" box.

If it's a different drive you can edit the system.adm file (C:\WINDOWS\system32\GroupPolicy\Adm). Search for the section called: !!NoDrives.

Add a new entry for your drive in the same format as the other ones. The numeric value is a base two entry. a=1, b=2, c=4, d=8 etc. And you can combine them too to hide multiple drives.
    e.g.
NAME !!DEFdrives VALUE NUMERIC 56 '8+16+32
    NAME !!Xdriveonly VALUE NUMERIC 8388608

You can then add an entry in the [stings] section to describe what the label means.

These drives will still be available through the command prompt or by typing in the drive letter: in the address bar in explorer. It simply hides them from the default display in windows.

You can lock the drive completely so that they cant use it with Windows Security

If you are using XP PRo make sure that simple file sharing is disabled

Right click the drive and click properties

    Click security

    Remove all the existing users

Add your own user with full permissions..

Click Apply (accept to apply the new persmissions to files and folders)

    Go get some coffee

Once finished.. log in as another user and you will see the drive but they will not be able to read the contents or anything..

Log in as you .. you can do all you need
