Just found out about this site yesterday (off topic but its a great way to kill to a few hours)

Anyway its got every episode of Scrubs, simpsons, and loads and loads of other tv shows, im using broadband and its just click and play, no download time.

Seems to be blatently breaking copyright but so im guessing its just going to be up for a week or two before its shut down. anyone got any ideas on its legality/possible defences? All the shows seem to come from american tv and still have the tv logos on them but i cant see how this would affect it.

Break this off to another thread, padser: but brilliant find :D

ps you spelled your url wrong: www.rapetheweb.com

BTW I would say legal: Took a look at scrubs, and there are still NBC logos and stuff like that on screen, which means its safe to assume most/all of this was taken from TV broadcasts: which makes it just as legal as recording your TV show to video tape. Last time I saw this issue was when Internet Radio came in; people starting creating download software that would take in each track as it was streamed: it was deemed legal due to the fact that it was radio broadcasting.

    That's illegal AFAIK

for profit making purposes, yes: these websites don't make profit. Hell, some of those sites don't even have ads.

NOW START THIS IN ANOTHER THREAD.

    Back on topic:

The first homeowner very well shouldve been prosecuted, but so should the other guys. Ultimately; did they steal anything? If not, I'd drop all relevant charges and keep my respective shot-firing guns handy :)

posting links to torrents will get you banned on boards, how is this ok?

    exactly that was my point
why can you link to this but not torrents?

Well, is this not like youtube? I mean, it's not really boards.ie's responsibility not to link to these sites, legally speaking - although, I'd love to discuss that point with anyone who knows better.

I think that the ban on torrents is just a goodwill/policy matter as opposed to a legal restriction (again, anyone who knows better will correct me on this hopefully).
