My mac has narcolepsy...

Sometimes it just won't wake up(not every time, but quite a bit)

I close the lid, it goes to sleep. A while later; wakey wakey, i open it... and there lies the problem. The breathing light on the front goes off, the HD makes that clunky noise but the screen won't go on. It's still on, the caps lock and num lock lights still go on and off, but thats about it. I usually have to hold the off button and turn it back on, which i don't like doing since i'm guessing thats bad for it.

Anyone any ideas? Could it be some bad crap that i downloaded? Because I download alott of crap, any new crap on versiontracker.com, i have to have it.

It's an ibook G4, only a year old. What are those things?

    First thing to do.

    reset p-ram

When you powerup and hear the bong.

    Hold

    alt + apple + p + r

keep them held down until you hear the bong again.

    ----

once booted into OS X go into utilities.

press alt + shift + U on dash and it will open the utilites window.

then double click and open 'disk utility'

Click on your Macintosh HD in the left panel, and then click on 'Repair Permissions' button on the bottom of the window.

If it finds files, it will automatically repair them (you dont need to click verify permissions). If it finds and repairs some, press it again until it all comes back clean.

    Then you are done.

    Here's a screenshot

Hopefully that should sort out your problems.

gerry87, how long have you had this problem?

It sounds like the computer is waking up (hence the hd noise, cap lights, etc) but the display is remaining off. So the issue may be with the display. Have you experienced any problems with the screen while the ibook is on? If so it could be a hardware problem.

But if your downloading lots of 3rd party crap it could just be a software conflict. Installed anything that might effect the display? A screensaver maybe?

Update out that should fix this

"This EFI Firmware Update fixes known start up and wake-from-sleep issues on MacBook computers. If the firmware update doesn't run automatically, open it manually in the /Applications/Utilities folder."

If no joy...connect external monitor...set the sleep patterns to test ...tell me what happens..;)
