Anti-Social Neighbour - Advice Required

    Hi all

I've got the misfortune to live next door to a w****r who sees fit to crank up the stereo at all hours and then pass out with all the windows open, resulting in an unbearable level of noise for the night and no way to stop it.

Having the volume lower and/or closing his windows would minimise the issue, but no, this idiot has to do it in style.

Thankfully, it's not every weekend; roughly once a month - but that's still a bitch if you have to work in the morning.

The Residents' Association have tried a number of options, but last night at 3am when it happened again I had been fast asleep and it woke me, so I called the Gardaí directly; they called out hammered on the door, but when they had no response they said that there was nothing they could do unless he answered.

The advice they gave was to log each occurrence and then go to a solictor; my question is (if anyone knows) how many occurrences do I have to sit through before I can get action taken ? And is there any other avenue I can pursue ? And as I'm renting, should it be me, the letting agents or the landlady that takes the action ?

All advice greatly appreciated (short of actual violence and murder which, at 5am this morning I might actually have considered) because at this stage I'm almost tempted to buy a remote from every stereo manufacturer and try all the off switches next time he does it; if I could identify the remote, I'd be sorted (although I would still be awake afterwards, at least it would be an improvement).

Thanks in advance from someone who is, at this moment, a very sleepy resident.
