    The sticky Essential Free Software thread is the place to look.

    Though two of the most popular ones I know of are Avast & AVG both are generally better than McAfee or Symantec's commercial offerings.

    I'd go with Avast Home myself. I also run AntiVir on a lap top. Both are very good products.

    Here's a comparative test:

    ::Edit::

    Hummm, after looking at those test results I may consider changing over to AntiVir on my main computer

    Is theres much difference between the free version of AVG and the one you can pay for?

    In recent months Avira and H+BEDV (Antivir) have merged. The new heuristic module (called Heuristik 2) does a pretty good job at proactive detection of malware although with a substantially larger number of false positives. These are being ironed out every day. The interface is simple to use and for 20 euro you can get a feature unlimited version. That's a pretty good bargain if you ask me. They release updates to the antivirus databases multiple times per day and the support service is excellent. Typical German Efficiency. I'd have no hesitation recommending these guys.

    AVG is a horrible Antivirus solution.

    Making comments without giving reasons is really going to convinve me/other people to change. Why do you hate it so much?
