Anyone see any coopers in off liecence ( ideally in Cork)...its lovely stuff...I am trying to brew a coopers dark ale next...

does anyone know if the brew kit turns out anything like as nice as the real thing ? or what you'd need to add to get it like it..
I would be happy if i could brew somthing like the coopers......

Coopers Pale ale is bottled conditioned, which isn't a problem for us homebrewers. But the choice of yeast could be very significant. I don't have much experience of kits as I turned to loose hops and steeping after one or two kit brews a number of years ago. I was very pleased with the kits I used, but it's hard not to be happy when you have your own beer in a keg for the first time.

Pale, sparkling and stout are fairly widely available, have seen them in the likes of O'Briens,Molloys,Superquinn, most good off licences should stock them,if they don't,ask them, pester power works!!!

any 'good' off licence should be able to order in some coopers if they don't already have it.

as for brewing something like 'the real thing' you won't get quite there with the kit but there are a couple of things you can do. First of all you can culture the yeast from the bottles as they use their brewing yeast in the bottles (some brewers use a different strain for bottling). Secondly you could add some hops for flavour/aroma. Coopers use Pride of Ringwood hops, but maybe someone can suggest an alternative. Have a look at the Australian forums if you're trying to build on the coopers kits as they debate it no end :)www.homebrewandbeer.com/forum is one to try. let us know how you get on.

Dunno about off licences selling it in cork, but you can get it in The Slate on Tuckey St. (pub)

I know you can get a coopers pale ale kit, dunno what it's like though. Drank the beer in Oz, saw the kit in the shops, and then checked some irish/uk websites - can't remember which ones - maybe thehomebrewcentre.ie - it's about 8 euro a kit in Oz - 1.5 kg though was too expensive to post/carry home :(
