J1 age requirement

Me and some of my friends are going to america next summer on a j1 visa. We're going to Santa Barbra, so i would like to know if it is a good spot to go to. Also One of the lads is not 18 until the middle of the summer ie. july, so will he be still eligible to get a visa or what age do you have to be or is there a way…

There doesn't seem to be a lower age limit. I would have assumed for a person to work through a J1 they would need to be 18. Maybe it doesn't matter
