Some of you may already know but Newstalk 106 have a regular booze slot on Fridays after 3PM. Sometimes it's wine but more often than not it's beer that's covered. If you tune in and hear them talking about movies stick around as they switch between movies & booze.

They seem to have an email list you can subscribe to. The addresses are at the bottom of the programme page.

Cheers for the heads up, OP.

Just got my first mail from the list today, and wondering if it relates to tomorrows topic, or last Fridays. It's about Boags Australian beers.

Quite detailed too, gives a short introduction about the brewery and Australian beers in general, as well as a list of off-licenses and pubs where the featured beers are available.

I think that was last Friday

    Hi Aidan,

    That was last Friday's show.

I have to say that I disagree with the mail's statement that Boag's "is recognised as Australia’s number one producer of premium quality beers". This statement is pure horses**t. Cooper's for one is a much more highly regarded brewer. I don't dislike Boag's but this makes them sound like they are something remarkable which they are not. Sorry for the rant :)

I love coopers, one of the nicest stouts around

Their stout IS yummy, mmmmmm. :D

Edit: Little Creatures is another fantastic Aussie brewer. Their wonderful American Pale Ale is available in Oddbins.

just listening now....what did they decide on the aldi /lidl / dunnes stuff ?

my spelling of the beers could be totally off as i just heard the names on the show.

Kaiserdom from Dunnes was described as very good, grassy, hoppy but with low bitterness.

Perlinbacher from Lidl was also described as decent if a little fruity for a pilsner.

Steinhauser from Aldi was slated, aroma of stewed veg.

Price was 1.16 per 500 ml for first two to 1.26 per 500ml for third (which comes in 330ml bottles)

I haven't tried any of them myself so I can't give my opinion. They didn't include Tesco as there was nothing available at the time of comparison.
