Hooking 360 up to PC

How do you hook up the 360 to a PC? I've tried connecting it via an ethernet cable but then I've no internet connection into my PC. WMP isn't detecting my 360 when the ethernet cable is going from the 360 into my PC. What am I doing wrong?

    Cheers!!

Edit: I've followed these guidelines but I'm just not sure if I'm connecting the right cables into the right place.

you need a crossover cable if you are not going through a hub/switch.

The cable supplied with the 360 works perfectly,

I've got a wireless network , but could not afford / too stingey to buy a wireless card for the xbox. So as the xbox was about 6inches away from my desktop pc (which had a wireless card) i used the available ethernet port on it to connect the 360, shared the internet connection , reset my 360 network settings to defaults (took 2 hours of trying everything else before that before i reset to deafaults) and it works perfectly.

As for windows media player, what version are you using? you need version 11 and have you installed the recent update fro the 360?

I have Windows Media Player 11.
Do you still need to have an internet connection if my 360 is connected to the PC? I'm on NTL BB with a cable modem, I don't have a wireless router.
