    From the Irish Times..

BT to invest £335m to upgrade Irish network

BT today announced plans to invest up to £335 million sterling over the next five years in a communications revolution in Ireland.
The company said it provide a updated communications network carrying fixed, mobile, voice, data video-on-demand and broadband services.
Government ministers in both Belfast and Dublin welcomed the announcement.
The programme is part of BT's multi-billion 21st Century Network investment, which will provide access to wholesale broadband services with speeds of up to 24 Mbit/s in Northern Ireland.
BT said it was developing what promised to be the world's most advanced communications infrastructure to give increased customer choice and flexibility and to enable the introduction of new services for all communications providers more quickly in the future.
The Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Micheal Martin, TD, said: "This is a strategically significant announcement for Ireland, north and south. BT's investment will underpin our ability to compete economically on the world stage by having access to state-of-the-art infrastructure."

They should invest some money in their customer service and accounts department first!!

Well all this money will likely be going to the BT network in Northern Ireland, so little or no use to use down here, unless the have decided to start investing in LLU again.

I think it is typical of the Irish government to try and take praise for something that has nothing to do with us down here.

and if there is some money going down here then it will drain away in dublin and the rest of the country gets nothing

I think this relates to BT NI and not BT Ireland. I doubt we will see much of that money down here, usual story. Northern Ireland has nothing to do with The Republic of Ireland its another country just like France or Holland and I dont see why that Republic of Ireland minister should be opening his mouth . Instead he should be sorting out his own country and the ****e BB infrastructure in the Republic of Ireland instead of creaming off the sucess of the United Kingdom!!!
