Questions from a yank on tickets

A couple of us will be Dublin during the Six Nations match against France.

Is scalping legal in Ireland? How much should we expect to pay for tickets to cheer Ireland to victory over France? A best place to buy tickets?

Are there certain seats to avoid at Croke Park? Favorite pubs around Croke to get ready for the game? What time does the pre-game festivities start? Do they sell alcohol in Croke?

    Thanks in advance.

Personally I'd say it will be quite difficult to come across tickets for this game outside Croker. Scalping is illegal in Ireland but a blind eye is turned to it. You can expect to pay a lot of the tickets as they are €70 cost price so maybe multiply that by 5. Your best bet would be in a pub before the game off a rugby fan. T

ry the Oak, Big Tree places like that along Dorset? Street.

They sell drink in Croke park but you canot bring it to your seat.

Defo. won't be able to bring drink to seat. They don't allow it at L Road so they won't allow in Croker.
They allow at other international grounds but not at L road.
As for tickets, I doubt very much you'll get tickets, unless you join a Rugby club.
Demand always exceeds supply for the VI nations, unless we are playing Italy at home. In that case, the general public are able to buy online.

I'd agree with that, considering that some clubs act like touts :)

The IRFU / Clubs will only provide tickets for six nations 2007 to those members who bought tickets for the Autumn Internationals...that is what I have heard.

Not even a few hot whiskeys ?

I'm sure you can, but maybe not pints of whatever is on offer.

ye but croker has a capacity of over 80,000 and L has a capicity of a lot less then 80,000 (sorry I have forgotten what it is), so there is going to be a lot of extra tickets anyway.
hopefully the IRFU will put some for each match on general sale as it would help expand the game to people would never get a chance to go to an 6 nations international

    All,

Thanks for all the answers and help.

I am hoping that with Croke Park capacity at 83k and Landsdowne being only 50k, that there might be a few available.

So better start trying every connection I have now to see if I can get tickets beforehand :(

i read an article in the times a fortnight ago covering the tickets, and no tickets are going to made available through general sale. they will be going through the clubs as usual.

I'm not sure what pre match festivities you're expecting. Normally there's shag all before the anthems. Unless you mean a few drinks in a pub near the stadium?
Did anyone see the "celebrations" after Englands wupping in Twickenham last week? Girls Aloud and fireworks. Hilarious at best, but under the circumstances...classic.

il gatto, I meant what pubs to go beforehand. Where do the supporter's usually go.

In america, we tailgate outside the stadiums. You bring your barbecue, brats, beers and liquor and chat it up with others. Do they do that in Ireland?

I've never seen anyone having a barbeque outside a stadium, but it's worth a shot. You might start a new trend. :) Springtime in Ireland is cold though. Some match days are beautiful, sunny affairs. Alot of the time though, it's cold, windy and lashing rain. Safer to plan for the pubs. Thats where it all happens.

not really bbq but for the hurling matches we would always bring sandwiches and a flask of tea and eat them on the side of the street in dublin away off to marses and the clonliff house, get a feed of beer, watch the game, see Wexford been beat by Kilkenny and away down the N11 stopping at every pub along the way.

the Rugby matches always seemed a much posher event

heh, i was just about to say that!

pubs around the area - Fagans, Quinns, The Big Tree and a shed load of others. As its the first time a rugby match will be played in Croker it'll be interesting to see what the beggars bush of the northside is.

either way, my local, i'm happy.
