Escourted tours - why are twin deals 3 times more expensive than single?

Im looking into going on an escourted tour holiday for 2/3/4 weeks in australia for next summer. Ive no experience of package deals or holidays in general really as ive never being out of Ireland and the odd wkend to galway/waterford dont take much planning.

Anyway my query is, when looking through brouchures of these escourted tours the twin supplement seems to be more than twice the single supplement?? I`d have imagined it`d just be double??

For example a 16day tour "Outback wonders" covering sydney,adelaide,alice springs, darwin is E1000single and E3315 twin?

Another tour of 13days "Australian highlights" covering 3nightsMelbourne, 1night Alice springs, 2nights Ayers Rock, 3nights Cairns and 3nights Sydney is E1170 single and E2635 twin. These prices include internal flights but not the main return ireland-Oz tickets.

What ye make of the "australian tours" package,,, thats what im looking for but maybe for 3weeks or a month max. Could a group of 4 or 6 of us take this offer, would that be processed as 3groups of 2, or 3twin packages or what way is it done. Im pretty clueless with this stuff.

Just looking for opinions in general on the packages and some advice on the twin/single fee difference basically! Cheers.

It's simply down to the rooms. The prices you quote are bizzare tbh. They can't be right.
Normally the single price would be more as there is only 1 person in the rooms whereas there would be 2 in a twin. The single person is paying for privacy and is really paying for a non existant room mate.

It does seem very strange, normally it's the single person who is heavily penalised. Generally they would pay more than half the cost of a twin room. 60-70%. Are you sure there's nothing in the small print about extra supplements on top of the single cost?

To answer your other question, I can't see why there would be any problem booking 3 twin packages as long as the availability is there.

The single cost quoted is the single supplement on top the twin.

Say 3315 for a twin divided by two is 1657.50 plus 1000.00 that is your single supplement.

In other words people staying in a twin pay 1657.50 per person. Person in a single pay 2657.50.
