I just installed a IDE controller with a 400G HD. The drive shows up in the deive manager and the controller shows up in SCSI Controllers. But the drive will not show up in my "My Computer". Although another DVD Drive has showed up for no reason?

    Any ideas? Please!!!!

    have you formatted the drive?

Right click "my computer", select manage.
    Select Disk Management
    Select new drive
    Format to your liking

Some of them ATA controllers have two sets of IDE sockets one for hard drive and one for DVD drives. If yours has this, are you sure you have the cable in the right socket.

If the controller is showing up as a SCSI controller then it sounds like a driver problem, I'll assume you used the driver that came with the controller, have you tried getting the most recent driver off the manufacturers website and updating the driver to see if it's any use?

There are two sockets and have tried both and both show the same. The manual that comes with the controller said that the controller should show up in SCSI controllers.

Thats borderline hilarious! Are updated drivers available for the card online?

Are there per chance jumper settings on the card to switch options?

It has now shown up in disk manger and I formatted it but it only lets me format it to a maximum of 38G and this is a 400G HD!
