Problems with Webmail?

    What's the story with Webmail? Third day of not being able to access it normally. This is getting ridiculous.

    there was a bulletin about it on webmail the other day:
    The student mail service has suffered 2 days of disruption
    - some on Tue 7th but very severely so on Wed Nov 8th -
    with the system 'freezing' every few minutes and regularly
    having to be manually restarted.

    The 'dumps' (unfortunate terminology!) produced by
    Surgemail during these incidents included the
    following statement:
    "Monitor detected system lockup for 9 seconds - this
    means the lockup was not internal to surgemail".
    Nevertheless, we still haven't managed to pinpoint what
    'external' factor caused it to freeze in that manner.
    Whatever it was seems - at time of writing (Nov 9th 09:15) -
    to have abated because everything has returned to normal.

    Our apologies for the resulting disruption and sheer
    inconvenience to the student user population arising
    from this incident

    Please note that several mailshots from the AllStudents
    mailing list and from various clubs&socs lists were
    delayed and being delivered only now at time of writing.

    I don't think there's anything you or anyone outside the Computer Centre can do about it.
