Separated Bus lanes

I was in Paris recently and noticed their bus lanes are separated from traffic lanes by small round-edge kerbs, about 4 inches high and a foot across. They stop briefly at each junction and only for the width of the junction so cars can't slip into the bus lane and run the last 100m before turning off.

I didn't see it happen but I'm assuming if a bus broken down in the lane, the small height of the kerb would allow a bus to jump over it and past it. I could be wrong though.

So... what do people, especially bus drivers, think?

The French police also have guns, that might be a factor in driver behaviour.

Paris is sadly full of crap drivers. You only have to head up to the Arc D' Triomphe to see them.

Not a bad idea, though it was probably introduced because the French are notoriously rebellious and weren't heeding the Road Traffic laws.

Wether we'd need that over here is questionable.

Irish drivers aren't great at abiding by bus lanes rules either but the reason I like them is because they stop accidental drifting. A car doesn't have to drive in the bus lane to obstruct it, just drift a few inches into it and then get caught in traffic.

Thats not crap driving I dont think, just plain out madness, what with it being about 5 lanes and trying to cross them and then all the cars joining onto it...nuts. Is it true that if they crash on that roundabout, that they arent insured because its so dangerous? Thats what I heard

Yes thats true about the Insurance on the Arc D' Triomphe, No insurance company in the world will cover you on that roundabout, maybe simular to the mad cow in a few years?

None of the lanes seem to be marked and of course there are 12 exits. The ultimate driving challenge.

Use of indictators is not recommended. Sign of weakness I was told by a pariseian.
