From a play.com email about pre orders
Due to a European shortage of the Nintendo Wii Consoles, we regret to inform you that Play.com will be unable to supply your pre-ordered Nintendo Wii at launch.

Hopefully they just took way too many pre orders and that actual shops will be getting lots and lots of Wiis

I doubt there'll be too much trouble picking one up in a shop in Ireland. There's twice as many on launchday as there was for the cube and there hasn't been much advertising yet. Also nintendo have always been quite unpopular in Ireland.

With regards to game prices blahdvd.com have them for a fiver less than play

No one has any idea yet how many machines will be available on launch day, nintendo have given the appearence of plenty, which is in stark contraast to Sony with their comments about imminent shortages.
In the next 2-3 weeks stores will have a concrete idea what they can expect to be delivered, all else is just order a number and hope for the best, that is idle speculation.
Wait and see the situation in the US, they should give us a good idea of how many machines we can expect on the shelves on launch day.

Seeing as the Irish Independant have been a solid source of videogaming info, no wait, they know bugger all.
It's not exactly rocket science to say that there will be a shortage of PS3w machines, it will probably be that way til early 08.
As for the Wii, it's simply an unknown, Nintendo say they will have plenty of consoles on launch, so I reckon give them the benefit of the doubt, as I already stated too many stores got stung, too many customers burnt at the 360 launch, thats why pre-orders have been halted.
I can confidently predict there will be a good number of Wii consoles on shelves on launch day, while we can appreciate the console for the innovation it is, the general public, those that have the real buying power, will take a little time to warm up to the machine, relying on key releases to make it a necessary purchase above that of the PS3 or 360, or even perhaps as a companion to those consoles. It will closely mirror the Ds/Ds lite launches, only the release of Brain Training and Nintendogs made the machine a must have to the non gamer, and there wasn't a shortage of Ds consoles until those games caught the public imagination.
