What Do You Use Your Computer For?

    Hey Folks,

Just wondering what everyone uses their computer. Back in the day I used to use mine for watching DVD's before players became mainstream. I was also always on the net and downloaded more when on dial-up than I do now on broadband. Before I met my other half I used to play alot of games, but I hardly ever do that now even though it's a pretty decent machine.

I don't use it for watching movies or listening to music as I have seperates for that and enjoy the quality more than the conveiniance. I've even sold my MP3 player and reverted back to minidisc for the better quality.
I find my interest in the web to be quite low these days compared to what it used to be. I'd love to get back into using my computer but I'm unsure of what I could do with it. I've been thinking tinkering around with digital imaging as I've taken 1000's of pictures since getting my digital camera sometime ago.

So my question to you guys and gals is what do you use your computer for? Give us some idea's of what else we could use our machines for.

    <token response>the pr0n. :)

I'm not far off what you are talking about, messing about with photoshop with the pictures from the digital camera(which is soon to be upgraded), see Flickr. It doesn't hurt to have a go. Not much of a gamer at all, I just bought FM 07 and I play Red Alert 2, that is the extent of it. Thats 2 computers and the laptop.

I don't necessarily agree. There is a big wide world out there and the computer is so powerful and flexible that I couldn't possibly comprehend all of it's various uses.
I've been using my own PC for less and less this past while and I'm interested in how I could use it more to it's full potential.

I only recently decided I might dick around with the load of photo's I have and after seeing Mike's post above I wouldn't mind tinkering around with some audio programs. I remember having that thought before.

All of the above, including Home Theater PC.

I have a laptop set up with a TV card, 160Gb external HD and a projector and use GB-PVR to record TV programmes (not that I watch the friggin' things). I do the usual music, photos, DVDs and the odd bout of FM radio.

One of the more unusual uses I have, and one that I utterly love, is using Yahoo's Launchcast. It's streaming music and music videos. So my typical Friday night is sitting in, with my other two loves (Mrs. Dunne and a few beers :)) and watching music videos an reading about new artists.

I buy almost all my holidays online, also CDs, books etc. I get a lot of info on financial matters and bank stuff on the internet, also bustimetables, directions, programmes and "what's on" and crap like that. I do online banking and online revenue, I have a excel mortgage calculator, I have email, I have skype and ring my brothers and friends who all live god knows where (absolutely excellent, can only recommend it), I have photoshop and a picture printer, I play music from the PC. I bought a webcam the other day (so people i ring through skype can see me, my brother has one and it's great), and you can set your pc so that you get a text if the camera detects motion in the room, so you can use it as security alert... My partner's brother plays poker online all the time (not for me though). And I regularly visit boards.ie and askaboutmoney.com. I also have an account with pigsback and get free video rental vouchers every so often. That's it really....

Games, learning, shopping and other general interweb stuff, digital photo editing and printing, watching tv shows and dvd's, playing MP3s and so on. I occasionally nerd it up with Linux once every few months and then abandon it for months when i get bored with the shiny new bells and whistles.

Watching Tv shows, playing games, browsing the internet, that probably accounts for 99% of it.

My laptop - so far anyway, despite initital intentions, has been used 100% for playing Company of Heroes and Battlefield 2142. :o
