4 1996 city buses have been transfered to replace buses that have been destroyed over the last year.

They will be transfered to the schools fleet along with the oldest other city buses when new replacements arrive next year.

is there anymore info on the new buses for cork online?

    Not yet.

According to reports BE have put in an order of 30 buses for Cork, 11 of which will be additional buses. 18 of the order is for double deckers.

This sounds like it might be good news. The Cork bus service is awful at the moment. Dublin Bus is light years ahead of the Cork bus service (in my experience as a Corkonian living in Dublin)!!!

Yupp, I saw one in Ballincollig the other day. When it went passed I was like "wtf!? Dublin Bus?" It came back around and went back into cork city, t'was indeed a Dublin Bus. It was awfully loud, slow and had little or no real excelleration.

They are VA Class buses a small fleet introduced by Dublin Bus in 1996. The vehicles transferred to Cork are:

    VA 1
    VA 4
    VA 5
    VA 6

There's also an English Reg demo bus going around - I saw it doing teh airport run the week before last.

(I assume its a demo and Bus Eireann aren't bringing buses back on the ferry and avoiding VRT ;) )

Yes it is the Wrights Commuter Bus. Currently on Trial with BE until 11/11/06 I believe.

That wright's commuter bus has a passing resemblance to the now-deceased KE buses.

Did it have Dublin Bus livery?

If they were it would only be €50 for a bus AFAIK. ;)

I had the misfortune to take one of these new buses. Horrendous experience as the bus filled up with the stench of semi-burned petrol half way through the journey.

I've often got a smell of diesel but never petrol.

Sorry, you're right, it was diesel. Still unacceptable.

Does anyone know when Bus Eireann are having their next timetable/schedule review? I know of several routes at this stage that hugely over-capacity in Cork.

Does anyone know when we might see some new buses for Cork?

The one thing I've noticed about busses in cork is how abosolutely terrible they are. Not really the state of the interior, 'cause I know all about Dublin Bus on that one, but the engine. Half of the commuter busses I've been on have had engines that deserve to be scrapped. One in particular had to stop every five minutes, or "mid-hill" to stop, change to a lower gear and get going again. BE are a disgrace really.

I'm open to correction but I didn't think Bus Eireann operated any manual buses anymore? (In saying that, I haven't been on one for several years!)

when the ryder was on they put those buses in Dublin and new ones on the shuttle - this is because they have a cap on number of buses on non-charter routes.

these buses are presumably being "chartered" to Bus Eireann Cork.

at least one of these buses is now in Bus Eireann colours

There's actually 3 sorts of buses you can have re: gears:
Fully Automatic - like all dublin bus and BE are now
Semi Automatic - No clutch, but gear is selected with a lever (i think the 'D' leyland atlanteans had that)
Manual - Clutch and Gearbox - a lot of private coaches are like this

Are you sure you're not just referring to 'kickdown' when you're criticising the engine? Kickdown is when you press the accellerator to it's full on position and usually an automatic gearbox will go down a gear so you get maximum force ahead.
