Resolution Indepency

So it's definitely gonna be included in Leopard.

What is it though? I really don't understand all this dpi pixel stuff!

    It's full of stars...

    :p

It means that you can hook up higher resoluton displays and not have them render the picture so small that you cannot read it. Displays have traditionally been 72 dot per inch (pixels per inch), but more recent displays go above this figure. If a piece of software has parsed its output for 72 dpi, and gets played back on a higher resolution display, the perception would be that the size is smaller. Resolution independency means that there is a built-in scaling yoke in the software, rendering 72 dpi stuff just fine on a higher resolution display.

My guess is that it'll increase the aliasing though.

No, it will have the opposite effect. Screen elements that are the same size as before will be displayed with a higher number of smaller pixels, increasing sharpness and readability.

It's good that OS X is about to get this feature, especially given that Windows has had support for resolution independence since version 1.
