Ordered mine a week ago last friday and the guy in Mactivate said 2 to 3 weeks.

I asked had he any update as i know Apple keep you updated with estimated shipping dates etc. But he could only say 2-3 weeks.

Just wondered if anyone else had got their machine sooner?

Friend of mine already got his. Basically it seems like people who ordered them on the same day they were announced got them within a couple of days, but if you waited even a couple of days with your order, it's taking longer.

Apple's tracking isn't very good! You'll only find out where it actually is when the mac is handed over to the courier for final delivery, therefore it's hard for even the shops to know when they'll get them in.

2-3 weeks is a realistic timeframe, but considering the demand for the new MBP's, it's probably going to be more on the side of 3 weeks.

I ordered mine from the mac website exactly a week ago

I'm climbing up the walls waiting for it to arrive... rawr...

the mac website says it hasn't been shipped yet and its estimated delivery time
is the 28th of November :(

I'm hoping against all reason that it will somehow get here on friday... as I'm heading to a lan at the weekend...

Apple's delivery estimates tend to be pessimistic, so there's certainly a slim chance of that happening, but I really doubt it. You'll probably be waiting at least until Friday of next week.

Hate to be the bringer of bad news but its not looking good for us on the delivery times for the MBP 17" anyway. 15" seem to be shipping on or before their estimated shipping date but the following letter was forwarded to a lot of Apple customers today changing the very first of the estimated shipping dates (a wait of 7-10 days was expected for the first of the 17" MBP's to ship) of the 7th to the 14th of November (shipping 3 weeks after first orders were placed).

    Letter reads:

    Dear Apple Store Customer,

Thank you for shopping at the Apple Store.

We regret to inform you that we must revise the previously estimated ship date for your Mac Book order. We now expect to ship your order by November 14th, 2006.
Once your order has dispatched, you will receive a Dispatch Notification email, which will provide you with detailed delivery information

For the most current information or to amend your order please visit: http://store.apple.com/Apple/WebObje...elfService=yes
Your business is very important to us, and we apologise for any inconvenience that this change may cause.

    Kind regards,

My shipping date is still the 7th Nov but nothing happened today. I also got a blank e-mail from apple earlier on and im sure it was meant to read the same as the above one.

Have a look at owaters and timmillwoods posts here both in the uk and both received the letter today

Yep, I'm typing this on my lovely new Macbook Pro C2D 15inch glossy. It is AMAZING. Quite the jump from an iBook G4.

I don't have time to type up a review, but if anyone has any questions i'll be happy to answer. Everything is perfect, although I am hearing noticeable hum from the fans at their lowest setting when its quiet around. Dunno if it's really annoying enough to call Apple. I'll give it another while.

Apart from that it's probably the best computer I've ever owned!

Just got it today. Haven't been home yet to crack open the box and have a look at my purchase.

2 weeks delivery is grand. Had prepared myself for 3 so was a nice surprise to have it back today.

Anyone got any ideas on how to get my music off my ipod onto this new Mac. I no longer have the computer that i used to have my `itunes library on. However i did set my ipod for use as a hard drive and backed up my music onto it as Data files also. But if i register it with this mac will it not wipe it clean and try to set it up for new use? Don;t want to lose my previous Library as some of the Cd's i no longer have or have been scratched in the car.

setanta5, perhaps I'm mistaken but if you stored them as data files and set the ipod as a hd, surely you should only have to connect the ipod and access them via the finder. The ipod should show up as an external drive. Just quit iTunes if it launches. I'm not sure though so be careful.

Use Senuti, copy all the music off it & place it onto your HDD.

Strongly considering buying one of the new MBPs. My old 5 yr old PBG4 is definitely lacking horsepower.

Now there is the option of a glossy screen or the normal (matte) screen.
I haven't been near a shop to compare them although I've seen other new laptops with glossy screens.

I know they say the glossy screen is better for viewing DVDs. pictures etc but are there any disadvantages (reflections etc)?
Anybody got any experience to share?

    patto_chan:

As far as I know the MacBook Pros don't have glossy screens but they can be BTO with them. Its the consumer MacBooks which are only available in glossy. Personally I much prefer the matte.

If you're even thinking about it, go glossy. I have it and the screen is nowhere as near as glossy as the Macbook. It's much higher quality. I have to remind myself that it actually IS a glossy since there are no reflections to be seen; the brightness of the screen outshines any direct light you might face. The benefits of the more contrasty screen, richer colours etc outweigh the perceived drawbacks, because to be perfectly honest, there are none.

The matte is also a great display but just pales in comparisson when side by side with a glossy MBP. It doesn't matter what one you get, some say the colour is more "natural" on the matte but it just looks dull to me. If you are even open to the option of the glossy then don't look back. You wont regret it.
