Upsizing photos

I posted this as an answer in the main thread but I think it would be useful here also. If you want really big prints and don't want to fork out a lot more dosh on interpolating software this is deadly.

If people haven't heard of this trick yet, it works. Increase the photo size in PS by 10% with bicubic interpolation turned on. This can be done numerous times to get the size you want. It will give really big print sizes with very little loss of quality. None of the experts seem to know for sure why this works but it does. Scott Kelby shows how to do it in "PS Tricks & Tips" but better still you can download an action here that will save you the trouble having to select the routines every time. Just run the action as many times as you need. There are some additional actions thrown in too. The "Supersize Upsize" is the one you need.

I have done this many times. It's amazing.

Why not simply dial in the dimensions of the size you want e.g. A3: 42cm x 29.7cm?

And make sure you choose Bicubic Sharper from the drop down menu for best results.

The main reason, John, is that the quality deteriortres significantly if you interpolate in that way.

You can get specialized resizers that do a better job than PS as well, they cost a bit though.
