Jackpot text list high horseness

I have recently found myself on a text list from The Jackpot advertising its upcoming tournaments which I assume others have too. The text has no phone number to reply to whether because it's sent via email or with the mobile number witheld so I cannot request to be removed from the list.

Getting such an unwanted text once a week is bearable but having received a text today about a tourny tomorrow, I think it was, it's obviously going to be more persistent.

I don't really wish to get on my high horse about it cause its not a big deal but the fact is I'm now on a text list from a club I have never visited, never given my details to let alone consented to be on a text list, cannot opt out of by replying, and they have no right to even have my number at all.

The only conceivable ways they could have got my number are from the member details 1) the old Merrion 2) the Fitz 3) the Sporting Emporium 4) Vegas Nights. Obviously the Merrion details list makes sense as a potential source due to the connection, the only other one that is credible is Vegas Nights because they are the only text list I have been on.

Whoever is responsible for the Jackpot text list, Duke or others, should understand that not only is it wrong to put people on a direct marketing text list without their consent that they have no way to opt out of, but it is also illegal and as far as I know the potential fines are seriously big.

I tried to go to www.thejackpot.ie to see if there was any way to sort it out there but the website wasn't working when I tried (edit: it is now). I could have PM'ed Dukebox here to see if I can be removed but one ought not to have to make personal contact with individuals in an external forum to sort it out.

I advise having a number to reply to on future texts so people can opt out of being on the list... or act in compliance with legal obligations not to do it in the first place, either way is good :)

Fairly sure its the merrions database in use. I dont mind too much if its a special tournament ie if the Fitz sent one to its members reminding them about the EOM tournament but the line is definitely crossed when I get told about a blackjack tournament.

This is really starting to annoy me now.
Every day it seems there are texts from pokerevents, greenjoker and now the jackpot! I think it is actually costing me money to recieve them now due to roaming charges as I am resident in the USA.
How do you get it to stop? Please make it stop!

    Just ring them up.

As I said their website was down when I went looking for how to contact them, and I didn't find them in the Eircom phonebook online. But that's almost a moot point.

I was going to put up a thread about this myself tbh. If there's a tourney on I generally find out about it on here. I got 4 text messages today alone reminding me of different tourneys. Every once in a while I don't mind, but for EVERY tournament they're running it's getting a bit tedious!

I started getting the JackPot txts recently...
I'm 98% sure the only place they could have got my number from is pokerevents:mad:

this is funny actually, one of the lads in my work got a text today "about some sort of jackpot". I checked the text and lo and behold it was from the Jackpot.

The funny thing is this guy has never played a hand of poker in his life. He had to call into the Merrion a few years ago for some press thing, thats the only time hes ever set foot in a casino....

    unreal :)

I can confirm it is definetely from the Merrion details as I know someone who went to the Merrion once ever and is annoyed about getting these Jackpot texts.

You know the potetnial fines are like €3000 per unsolicited text sent, it is the most -EV gamble ever by the moron in the Jackpot who's doing it.

Yeah, I've get them and I've never played in the jackpot, pretty annoying.
