Our builder ran all waste water into our septic tank incl sink waste etc.Now our tank smells and I'm wondering was this method was a short cut by the builder as somebody told me that sink waste, washing machine waste etc should on no account go into the septic tank.
Our house is Homebonded so if this is a flaw on the builders part do we have comeback?

It is normal for all waste water to go into the septic tank, not rainwater as that should go to a separate soakaway.

As for the smell.. don't really know:confused:
could be one of many causes
tank needs emptying, many people don't realise they should empty the tank every few months:eek: check manufacturers recommendations.
    Tank too small,
    pipe to percolation area blocked
    percolation area inadequate
    secondary treatment system needs servicing.

    etc
