Any card based on the ATi x1950xt (256mb) -- Komplett have one for €275, but you'll prob want to change the cooler ;) Overclockers might have a better selection.

    Um, what now ?

The Nvidia 7950gx2 1gb is by far the fastest :)

The x1950xt is fast, but not as fast.

Also the Nvidia 8800gtx will be released this week/next. Its up to 92% faster then the current ati flagship card.

 Honest mistake, happens to all of us.

On a different note, the x1950 Pro looks interesting - not to mention cooler running & lower power-consuming than the XT.

Oh, did I mention you should be able to run Folding@Home off any of these cards? ;)

Yeah its sweet isnt it :)

Im considering buying a x1950xt just for that cause. Would move me up the rankngs pretty quick :)

Still moved to #21 in 3 weeks, not bad going

    Anyway back on track.

WOuld a 7950gt suit you, they are cheap, and fairly powerfull from what i can see. Especially at high resolution with lots of aa + af

    Thought 7950GT > x1900xt (256), => x1950xt wins?
At least that's what I got after sifting through 3 random reviews.

I would not advise any1 to spend more than 150euro, on a card, because there will be dx10 cards out 4months approx, which will be hdct enabled to play blueray,or hddvd format.Buy a secondhand 256meg card to tide you over,to be able to run windows vista or hd content you WILL need a dx10card.If you could get a 200e dx10 card now ,that would be fine,i dont think they will be out be4 january 07.OR just buy a card in maplins 120euro approx.

didn't think I'd ever hear that sentence...

Just remember that you'll still need to pay to upgrade to Vista. I always feel like people are forgetting that...
    Also, Blu-ray/HD-DVD drives cost a few hundred € atm; I wouldn't bother until they're less than €50.

And finally, from AMD-ATi's x1950 features:

dx10 cards in 4 months, By 4 months you mean already out ? yes ........

Yes go with his choice, someone who obviously Has no clue about whats on the market, wise decission made there.

Anyone who knows anything about Graphics knows that first generation cards are just a testing ground. Especially when you move into new technology like dx10. Look at early dx8 cards, and dx9 cards. Wait a few months, Then buy a dx10 card, But for know just buy a x1900 of a 7900gt. More then powerfull enough for todays games. At a moderate resolution and aa+af settings.

If you think,in 3years time,i might get vista, i might get a hddvd or blue, ray, drive ,when they go down to a reasonable price, then my point is still valid.Get a dx10card 4months from now.I dont see dx10 graphics cards advertised on the irish websites, just directx9.0c cards. My advice is wait at least until they are avaidable on irish websites. You need to make sure, that any dx10 card you buy is hdcopy protection enabled/ hdcp compliant, if you want to play hddvds.

But what if you want to buy NOW as opposed to waiting for the expensive high-end cards in 4 months time (that's IF you're lucky!)
How about people buy expensive cards NOW, then wait until ATi/nVidia bring out a HD-compliant card in the sub-€100 market, install that alongside their gaming card, and HEY PRESTO! Games & movies!!

unless your a hardcore gamer then ,you should ,wait cos even a 350euro,card wont run, vista at its full potential, cos vista is based on dx10, but its dx9 compatible ,its like paying 200euro for a copy of winxp, when vista is on the way,i know xp is around 80euros, i,m just making a comparison. If you have some prog that needs 256meg video card ,you can get a card round 100euros,or get on on boards, for sale, ads ,computer hardware.

Vista runs at full potential on dx9, DX10 is only for games.

I,m assuming if you are spending 300euro on a card ,you wanna play games like quake4 ,bf2 or else you are doing animation/video editing which means you will NEED a dx10 card in the next year.IF you were buying a new ipod would you buy 1 in november for 250euro,if you thought in 2months time i,ll get the 2007 model for the same price.
