Charmed: The Most Under-Rated Show on TV

Is it me or do you guys think that Charmed, starring Rose McGowan, Holly Marie Combs and Alyssa Milano was the most under rated show on TV.

I mean think about it.....it was shunned in almost ALL of the Sc Fi and TV mags around but obviously was doing something right since it lasted for eight years.

Yeah there was a few dodgy episodes, but what show hasnt had? I believe it went from strenght to strenght throughout its lifespan and it got even better when Rose McGowan came on the scene.

    Love to hear your thoughts?

Eh, no thanks! always looked to me like a poor man's buffy and I wasn't really a fan of that either.

Not a great show at all. Quantity means nothing, so the fact it's been on for x amount of years doesn't point to much.

I thought it was popular for the tops they wore. Never watched it, but the ads looked it. :)

By coincidence, I saw this really for the first time today on Living.
By providence it was the series finale and I'll never have to see it again.

7 or 8 seasons doesn't mean anything in terms of quality. Look at 7th Heaven...still going and has been the biggest pile of crap since day 1.

Charmed wasn't too much better...poor mans buffy as someone said, and I was a fan of buffy and angel (shhh tell no one) :)

This is the worst show ever. The 3 of them just make suprising looking faces at one another. It has been on the air for 7 seasons time it was axed.

    I cannot tell a lie.

    I quite like it.

The fact that mrspopebenny16 is totally addicted to it may have some bearing on my perception.

When you have seen (or heard from the next room or even tried to sleep through) each story many, many, many times you start to show elements of Stockholm Syndrome.

And, actually, the Cole storyline was very good, really.

And yes, we have every ep of Buffy and Angle (sic) on DVD and that.

And I shouldnt start sentances with "and" it's bad grammar.

Charmed is a ridiculously ****e show. Its horrendously god awful in virtually every way that a tv show can possibly be. Worst actors, writing, direction, camera work, special effects, casting ever.
I would rather bang my balls repeatedly with two splintered planks than watch this show for any amount of time.
    Are you serious?
    Are you actually serious?
What's to like? Its retarded beyond belief. 7th heaven for morons who cant get over that other piece of **** show, buffy.

oh god, charmed really is utter tripe. Living TV seem to have it on back to back for hours at a time.

It never ceases to amuse me how indignant people can get over TV shows. It as if their lives depended on them. It also amuses me that "s**t" on its own passes for any form of an opinion. If you don't like something best to say nothing. As for the offending programme, well it's no better and no worse than some of the rest that passes for entertainment these days. Have seen a number of episodes and it seems like a cross between Melrose Place and Buffy. It got good enough ratings in the US to take it through 7 or 8 years but then again so did many other shows that people or hate(never got Seinfeld personally). Like other "popular" shows it has its constituency and many of us are not part of it. In the end it's just a TV programme.

So what you are saying is if someone asks for an opinion of a tv show on an internet forum, and you have a negative opinion, you should just say nothing at all?
Now THERE is a pointless opinion if ever I saw one.

I think what is_that_so is trying to say is rather then just say a programme is **** think about the programme and state what you think, like so:-

Charmed began life after Buffy the Vampire Slayer and like so many other Teen Drama's coming from the WB it need to be supernatural and also have a bit of comedy/drama thrown in for good measure.

However there are serveral problems with Charmed. Charmed doesn't have a great cast of actors even for a teen/sci-fi/fanatacy/horror/comedy/drama TV show. The three main leads seem to just look at each other with surpised face when something happens. E.g. Someone is killed/vanished camera goes to Witch 1 (surprised raised eyebrow), camera on to Witch 2 (surprised flared nostrils) and finally on to Witch 3 (surprised pursed lips).

The show trys to be way to much that what it actually is, its mild entertainment just like Buffy, Smallville, Angle and other WB production but it trys to be something far more wide reaching and spans all of those shows plus all of the other nicey/nicey drama of 7th Heaven, the Gilmore Girls and other WB productions.

It is not the case of being popular with viewers rather it is a case of being a strong show on a week channel i.e. The WB.
Hopefully with the launch of The CW (The WB and UPN megered) shows like these will be a thing of the past.

In realtion to Seinfeld you really should try again with that show. It was a strong show on a strong american channel. Yes there is alot of americanism which you won't get because your not from the US but over all it is a mad insane comedy and you really really have to just understand that all of the characters are completely insane. Once you figure out that you have to overcome the americanism and the natural insanity of the characters you will love Seinfeld, I used to hate the show, I now realise that it is one of the best american Sit Coms ever.

Problem with Charmed is that when Constance M. Brugge (?) started the show she wanted it to be way way darker than it was. Sadly she got pushed out and the producers decided they wanted to concentrate on the Pheobe storyline, trying to basicly turn the show into a soap with magic added on, as opposed to an occoult show concerning three sisiters. In fact they were supposed to have a rather unhappy ending at one point and the stories for the third/fourth season onwards were supposed to be a lot more scary and dark.

However that was all put paid to and the new producer/chief story writer (forget the name) decided to go on the Family Angle, so lots of crap involving Leo, Piper, Phoebie and latest hunk, Paige and various men, and more and more crap about their respective jobs and stuff.

Under-rated? Not really as someone who has watched every one of them I fell they get the rating they deserve.

Now, this does rather ignore the fact that it ran for 7 seasons, which isnt at all bad, the last five almost exclusivly concentrating on the topics I've just listed as flaws above.

It has to be the most wasted opportuinity for a show in a long long time though.

Personally I love Charmed! I think Alyssa Milano is great actress but the only reason i watched Season 4 was cos Julian McMahon was in it and he is HOT! But still i love Seasons 1-6 after that it went completely downhill except for some of Season 8 cos it all just focused on Leo who bored the sh!te out of me.

i had the misfortune of seeing 10 minutes yesterday, one of them was giving a lecture to a jury and was trying to convince them magic was real, she must have used the M word about 472 times in 30 seconds, it drove me crazy.i had to leave the room as my mates sister was watching it, i get the impression it could be alright they just need beter writers.

I'm afraid charmed was a guilty pleasure of mine too. Yeah, it was Buffy-lite, but it was still pretty good, with some great story arcs and memorable bad guys (Julian McMahon, Oded Fehr). Ah well....

I flick to it occasionally, during ad breaks, to see what Alyssa Milano is wearing. I flick back soon after.

"Nothing can overcome the power of three..."

Thankfully this not true as proved by the airing of the show's finale.

[Cut to the sound of the whole world sighing with relief]

    It's a load of shoite.

I would rather bang my balls repeatedly with two splintered planks than watch this show for any amount of time.

Sums up how I feel about the show, just seeing a second of it while flicking is enough...something about the 3 sisters that makes me feel all punchy inside.

I love it! i've only recently started watching it (thank you living!) but it's brilliant!
