Getting XBOX 360 Tonight But Need Help First

    Hey all.

I'm (hopefully) getting an Xbox 360 tonight ( have it pre-ordered at argos ) BUT the question is should i get it.? I've been reading and hearing all these stories about "over heading" " Three Lights" " Discs Not Playing" " Freezing"

I'm not to keen on handing over my hard eared cash only to send the box back to Microsoft in a few months for repairs. I never had ANY problems with my PS2, PSP or first XBOX ( ALL of which i got on the first days of release )
    and all still working perfect.

Have the 360 bugs been fixed or I'm I gambling with my cash ?

I'm on my 6th one at the moment. All different problems, including : red lights, machine starting on its own and generally locking up. My well ventilated and are not moved or bumped.

I was nearly going to buy an Xbox (original) yesterday just to have something to play with.

Keep your hard earned money, I wish I had

Teheee, I'm the opposite. Had mine since launch and it's never locked up once, nvm three red lights. :D

KTRIC has now cursed this thread with his bad 360 luck lol ;-) so dont buy one,

Seriously though , i've had mine since january and had no issue with it yet.

Got mine about a month ago and haven't had a single crash or problem and the only other person I know with a 360 got his shortly after launch and has had no problems either (I'm sure he'll be in to tell you himself soon :p)

Its how all electronics are now unfortunately, you can get extremely unlucky with them and other people can have absolutley no problems with them :/

all glitches aside, the console isnt all that great anyway, there arnt enough games, they cost up to 80 quid to  if i were u i would keep my money till the ps3 is released,at least there will be more games for it, the only feature that keeps me going is xbox live.:D

I've also had mine since launch and no problems with it, I even have it in an entertainment centre but I keep the door open when I am playing it just in case.

On the game front I've played a good few so far, what I tend to do is have about 5 games at any one time and trade them in as new ones come out, of course Gamerscore whoring can be quite addictive it was the only reason I went back to Call Of Duty 2 to complete it on Hardcore but I had a much better experience with the game because of it.

Having the console online is half the fun of it with demos, videos and multiplayer.

I have a few consoles lying around (game cube, PS2, Original Xbox, PSP, and Nintendo DS) and i find that most of the time I am being drawn to the Xbox 360, or Phonex Wright on the DS.

The only time my PS2 is turned on now is when we have friends over to play Buzz, Eye Toy and Guitar Hero.

So I'd say get one, there are some good deals out at the moment and Xtravision has a very nice deal coming up which is described in one of the other threads.

You'll be looking for quiet a while till you have games worth buying a PS3 for.

And if you shop around at all you will get your games for €60 either online or from different different shops.

Funniest thing about his post is his game price complaint, then the next he line advises people to wait for the ps3.

    Such logic...

I got mine on launch day and haven't had a problem with it yet. Didn't get much use in the first 6 months (Kameo, PDZ and Condemned - that's it) butr it's getting plenty of use now. I think now would be a good time to invest. There are so many good games coming out before Christmas and early next year (can't wait for Lost Planet).

I'v had mine since launch and its only froze twice, both of which were during Oblivion. And it gets alot of use from both me and my brother. I'd recomend having a look on play-asia for a few cheap region free games.

Yep from day one (First day it was out) it's worked everytime without fail, happy as a pig in sh*t!:D

I have mine since May. I bought it in Wales aswell so it had to survive a plane journey to get it home (really glad i came home before the security checks got really crazy).

Apart from some noise from the disc tray when playing the games, nothing has ever gone wrong with it.

On a sidenote, anyone who thinks PS3 games will be cheaper then 360 games is a fool

PS3 will cost the same if not more per game so your point ? Play.com who are generally cheape than retail stores here, has them listed for €75, 360 titles however are €56.99-59.99

Most games are multi-format so how will there be more title for the ps3 ?

A really rather stupid ill-thought and utterly pointless post if there ever was one.

    ..

Bought two Xbox 360's at launch. 1 has never had any problems, the other had to be replaced back in January but has been perfect ever since.

Even if your 360 has problems. Return it to Argos and they will replace it, or send it back to Microsoft and they will replace it. It really shouldnt worry you.

No problems at all, if you have broadband , hd tv and or/ surround sound it makes it way better!

    Hey all.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't get it last night I was still in two about it BUT I did make up my mind and i will get one.. But at the end of the month as "Furp" said Xtravision has a nice deal coming up.
"Gears of war" has me hyped enough to get one. So wish me luck :)

The only sad part is that there's no Broadband here in Donegal. Damn Eircom and BT. :( There's wireless Broadband but not sure if you can use that for gaming. What do yous think about this company... NWE and what speed ?? This is all new for me.

NWE sounds like the equivilent of Irish Broadbands Breeze. It should be fine for Live but you should ring them and find out or look for people on here with it.

    It's a great machine.

Got mine in January, when there wasn't many good games. Now things have really taken off.

Just got Broadband a few weeks ago and hooked up to Live. That gives it a massive new lease of life to me.

As for the price of games, anyone who buys games in a shop is either unaware of internet prices or just loaded.

So far I have got Hitman, Ghost Recon, and Saints Row, with Splinter Cell and FEAR on the way for €35 each from Play Asia.

Got Dead Rising and Oblivion (not region free) for €58 or so from sites like Play or Blah DVD.

And picked Prey and Condemned for just under €25 each second-hand while on a recent business trip to England.

So if you shop around you'll never have to pay those stupid prices of €70-75 :)

HMV's new release Xbox 360 games tend to be €59.99. Recently got Splinter Cell DA from them and then got Tiger Woods for €59.99 in Game by letting them know that HMV had it for €59.99 :)

But you cant trade in play asia games right?
