Was just thinking the same. I've never played an american footy game, and doubt that I ever will...

Isnt this what the Wii is all about?
Taking gameply to a whole new level, getting the player more involved with the gameplay?
But as above....never bought a Madden game and never will....

Yeah well thats a pretty crappy article IMO even though I won't get the game.

It basically says you'll look like an idiot and get tired when playing. If you read the IGN hands on, EA have worked it out so large motions like the kind this guy were doing would work or small flicks of the wrist would work if you preferred this.

Basically he made big motions so thats the way everyone else is automatically going to play it.

Some reviews complained about this for another game aswell. The conclusion I come to is that they are making motions they wouldn't make naturally because they don't know what they are doing. If they just played it naturally they wouldn't find it as bad IMO.

I saw a video of the madden controls and it looked decent enough; I'll never get the game, so if EA haven't done wonderful things with it I won't be surprised or bothered, but I do hope it works well, because it certainly has potential on paper (throwing the ball, catching etc.).
I think it's fair to say that a key detail in the success of the Wii will be the control implementation; I'm not sure what physically tricky actually means, it could mean it's hard to actually pull off, it could be that it's hard to get used to at first, or it could be that the writer is just lazy, who knows, but I'm not so much concerned with the potential for the wii as I am concerned about the actual implementation of the device...

I think EA make some terrible games anyway this is definatly not a hardware problem.
Who out there is actually buying Madden in enough quantities to make them think that releasing that crap over here is a good idea?

Ah it'll be grand. And anything that helps those potatoes across the water get fitter is fine by me.

To be fair, i don't think the article was saying anything bad about the game having problems, if anything, it just said you would get tired playing it and you might look like a fool in the process, lol

Is that necessarily a bad thing? I got a bit concerned with Nintendo's "even your grandmother can play" approach and it's nice to see games like this and Zelda still offer a challenge for the experienced gamer.

Even if the controls are a bit awkward, it's nice to see EA embracing the wii and trying something new, as opposed to the standard multi-platform giant sports title that i expected.

I've found that Madden games are actually suprisingly fun, even if you don't know much about American Football. As for the controls, a bit of excercise is not necessarily a bad thing ;)

do people outside america actually buy these games? like most others it affects me not

Probably not a game I'll get (I just dont understand American Football).

But as brim4brim said, both Matt and Mark on IGN loved the game, and found playing it easy and natural, so I think that this is just a case of someone who doesn't "get it"

Might be interesting to see this one although the last few years the madden games got a bit crap, typical EA fare.

I'll probably give it a shot, for nostalgias sake if nothing else.
