Combine Hard Disk Volumes?

Just wondering if it is possible to combine two hard disk volumes without losing any data.

I've got a Dell laptop that has a hard disk split into SYSTEM C: and DATA D: volumes. All program files etc automatically get installed on the C: drive and the D: drive seems to be for saving etc. The problem is the C: drive is only 5GB whereas the D: drive is 12GB. Currently the C: drive is nearly full but the D: drive has about 4.5GB free. Everything is running desperately slowly.

Is it possible to merge the two volumes together and just have a single 17GB volume? Would this help? And is it possible without deleting anything or formatting the volumes?

    Thanks

You can merge them alright or just change the installation path to D: when you go through setting up something else. Partition Magic or something similar can do this for you, as always backup your data before doing so. I would advise getting an external hard drive for storage (they are cheap these day) or a larger second hard drive.
